I’ve just spent an hour scouring all my external hard drives in the hopes of finding a copy of InDesign CS6, which seems to be the last version of InD which can open PM files. No luck. I kept InD CC 2015 but it won’t open them. I even dug out my old 17” mid-2010 laptop but no luck there either. :>(

Does anyone know of any other app which can open those old files?

CS3 or CS4. Send me files in zipped folder and I will try to move up into InDesign.

Oh Roger! Thank you so much but there are a LOT of files. I’d hate to put you to all that trouble. Surely there must be *something* these days which can open them? (I’m still kicking myself that I didn’t keep any older versions of InD)

I think you can call Adobe and they can search for your CS4 license which should open PM6 files. Call Adobe.

But wouldn’t I have to have a copy of CS4? The oldest version I can find is CC 2015 and it won’t open them. :>(

Thanks for the suggestion, though - I WILL phone Adobe to see if they have any suggestions.

Only if you bought them directly from Adobe. I tried that and they said I had to go back the place I bought the discs. I even had the license number.

I had upgraded but the earlier version had gotten erased for reasons I don’t remember. So I just needed the older version so I could upgrade to the new one. Adobe was not even helpful. They didn’t care a wit that I could give them license numbers back to the beginning of time.

1) not sure if CS4 will run on your machine. You would launch CS4 and then from within CS4 open the PM file.

If you have current CC subscription, you have get more support.

I kept CS 3 and CS4 on an older Mac Book Pro 17 (2008) for just that reason.

Expect some tracking and positioning movements. We continue to get requests from jobs done in early 2000 and a few earlier.

You might ask the folks at Markzware. They have a file conversion service: https://markzware.com/support/file-conversion-service/

Hi Helen,

I have Indesign CS6 and open my old Pagemaker files with it. If you haven't found a solution yet, please feel free to email me the Pagemaker files and I will convert to Indesign CS6 for you.
