Currently i am doing PhD in earthquake damage scenario analysis. For my study i am extensively using InaSAFE plugin. Such a great tool. My sincere thanks to everyone involved in the development of the plugin.

I am at the final stage of my PhD work and i would like to implement InaSAFE plugin in a webserver. Since my knowledge on GIS webserver is very limited, just want to know is it possible to use InaSAFE plugin in a webserver (Eg: PostGIS + QGIS Server). Would appreciate if someone shed some light. I’ve googled, but couldn't able to figure out any solution.

Thanks

It is possible to do it - in fact we already have two existing projects that support this:

* InaSAFE realtime - provides Indonesia specific near realtime analysis of earthquakes soon after they occur and publishes them to the web (see http://realtime.inasafe.org)
* GeoSAFE - provides a generic implementation of InaSAFE as a Geonode application (see e.g. http://geonode.kartoza.com)

Here are some useful links:

We are busy finishing up a big revision to InaSAFE Realtime - I am including a general architecture diagram below which provides an indication as to how the system works. Although the code is Indonesia specific, it can be easily adapted for other regions.

If you are interested in mode details, I would be happy to join you on a voice call with a screen share to walk you through the work we have done.

Could you tell us more about your work? Which region are you in, what are the aims of your research etc.

Regards

Tim

Thanks

Dear Tim,

Wow. Thanks for the immediate response.

I am a Master of Science graduate in GeoInformatics doing PhD in "Earthquake Damage Scenario Analysis using GIS & RS Techniques". Working as Senior GIS Engineer in a private concern and doing PhD as a part-time candidate.

My study area is Chennai - a city in Southern Part of India.

A brief of what i am doing (or trying to achieve)

Regarding, Seismic hazard analysis i've completed the work. Now, i am trying to incorporate the output of the seismic hazard analysis (nothing but seismic zonation of the study area) in to a damage scenario analysis tool to generate "Damage Scenario's". Though this can be achieved using a modeler in QGIS/ArcGIS, i am very much interested in using InaSAFE for this purpose. Have few issues.

1) How to use the seismic hazard data along with shakemap as "Hazard Data" in InaSAFE ? Seismic Hazard data will be a raster (grid with cell values 1 to 5)

2) "Building" layer: Based on irregularities, buildings were classified as (Low - Moderate - High). How to use this classification in "Structure Classes: Create  Keyword Wizard" ? Will it be ok to use this class to run the scenario or do i have to change any parameter within the python code ?

And finally, want the whole scenario process to be done through a web server.

---------

http://geonode.kartoza.com - Damn. How i've missed this one. What a great tool. This is exactly what i am trying to achieve. Only thing is i want seismic hazard data to be used as a hazard layer along with shakemap. Is it possible to do it ?

Anyway, i don't want to bother you with too many questions. As of now, this is the process i've been working on and will go through the links you have provided. Will create a account geosafe and try out the analysis.

Thank you once again.
