Back up from Macair

Dear all

Need help n suggestions regarding back up from Macair, the internal HDD is 256 GB. I am taking back up using carbon cloner to an portable drive which is about 1TB and almost full.

I also take time machine backup to a Seagate Goglex home NAS drive over the wifi network at home.

I do not use time Machine alone as the drive gets full it deleted earlier backups.

Now I have realised, that the time machine back up over wifi is not happening over sometime as wifi network is not that strong and time macair is left ON is less.

Option: should I use thunderbolt to gigabit network adapter for time
Machine backup on NAS drive??

How do our group members back up data, I shall like to know and learn so as to safeguard and store my data
