I can made some of the older builds work on my new laptop (Windows 10 Home), but the newest ones don't work at all. If I try to open any picture, a message appears saying

Image glass cannot open this picture because the file appears to be damaged, corrupted or not supported. Magick.NET-Q16-OpenMP-x64: The type initializer for 'NativeMagickSettings' threw an exception.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled and tried to repair but it all makes no difference. Does anyone have a suggestion? I've used the program with great satisfaction on my desktop for years, so I'm thinking this probably isn't a complicated fix... If more information is required, please let me know.

ImageGlass uses the latest .NET framework. Windows 10 doesn't automatically update those.

Make sure you've installed the .NET 4.8 framework (https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework/net48).

It may also be necessary to install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe) but I'm not 100% certain about that ...

There are a couple of unresolved issues regarding this in the Github Repository, so we may need to try a few different things.

Thank you Kevin for the suggestion. I downloaded the NET 4.8 but when I went to install it, Windows told me that it was already installed. And before I try the other thing, I'd want to know that you were more certain about it than you seem to be! :-)
I'll keep everyone posted here if I find a solution but if ImageGlass figures out the problem, I'm all ears. My laptop is straight out of the box, so it's weird that it doesn't work.

I believe I've found a possible solution.

I installed IG 8.6.6.6 on Win10 and it asked me to install .NET 4.8 - so yes, you already had 4.8 installed.

It ran for me, but I've been running IG 8.5.1.22 for some time with no problems.

As a test, I renamed vcomp140.dll in c:\windows\system32, then ran ImageGlass. Up came the "NativeMagickSettings" error!

So I believe a copy of vcomp140.dll is required. I know that a copy of that file is available in the ImageGlass 8.5.1.22 portable download; alas it cannot be found in the 8.6.6.6 downloads.

I can't upload a file here, so I've placed a copy in my Google Drive: vcomp140.dll

If you've already got a copy of vcomp140.dll on your system, then I ain't got a clue! You should be able to put that file either in the ImageGlass install folder or in C:\windows\system32.

I can confirm that adding vcomp140.dll to the install folder of ImageGlass resolved the issues for me, so might be worth keeping a copy of that file for future updates on the off chance it rears its head again.

Wow you're amazing, Mr. Kevin!

This file comes with the Magick.NET library, I don't know why it's not included when I compile the app.
I will report this to Magick.NET fork.

FYI.
I have vcomp140.dll in C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and ImageGlass is working fine. I am using Windows 11 64-bit. I do NOT have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 installed. But I have Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable and Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable installed.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. Matt W: how do you "add vcomp140.dll to the install folder of ImageGlass"? Sorry if this is a dumb question but my tech skills are only average. Where is the "install folder" of ImageGlass? Do you install vcomp before or after you install the program (and if before, how do you do that)? Thanks!

UPDATE: Somehow, just doing and redoing what people here suggested, ImageGlass is working correctly on my system now. Thank you! That's a relief....

FYI,

- The "installed folder" of ImageGlass v8.6 is (usually) located at "C:\Program Files\ImageGlass Kobe"
- To add "vcomp140.dll" to the install folder of ImageGlass, you just copy the "vcomp140.dll" file and paste into the installed folder. An user account control popup will appear, click Yes button.
