I'm buying cars for decompose and sell the parts.

I want to create in Products a generic product like Right Front Door and when I'm decomposing the car to attach/select to every generic part:
the brand (like Opel)
the car series (like W045YUE56)
year of fabrication
motor type

How I can do this?

I have tried with the standard install but when I try to create a receipt I don't see any posibility for doing this

thx a lot for any feedback

Either use ready made definition (see below = examples) or, define new properties or fields in your Product Window for these or define each information type as a sub-product if you want to assign them with more sub types having own pricing (value added costs strategy of defining them).
You can use the Radio Group selection of a BOM (product with children parts) http://red1.org/adempiere/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=1814
Thus you can define main parent product as Right Front Door:
1 <child>brand <more children in radio group> {Opel, BMW, Audi} each with different prices and further children
2 <child> car series (more children - W045YUE56)
Guarantee Date = year of fabrication
Product Type = motor type

In short usually there are different approaches and this is where a system design stage is important and part of the cost of setting up an ERP.

thank you red. I want to document all the process and give back to community a nice document with pictures for this type of activity.

What document should I use for decompose? the process would be:

Receiving the car
Reception - enter car information: Name, Year, Car series, Fuel Type /this can be done with atribut sets/instance (is this a good option?)
Decomposing: all products should auto get all atributes of the Car (Year, Car Series, Fuel Type) or a way to easy select in case I have 2 same models
Stock: after decomposing the stock will increase with parts and the Car stock is dimnuate with 1
Selling: creating invoice and selecting the product with all attributes.

thx a lot

it is best you draw up your screen design for input or model table screen - and specify the data content of each attribute. Sometimes another option is better than what you thinking of at the moment. To answer you above, just give it a shot. In my experience i sometimes change the design a few times before arriving at the more usable or popular one. That is why open exchange is important. Release early is better than changing later as it costs more then. But do be transparent about your info (if you are dealing in private information then do not use open forum and you have to pay for private consultation.)

I will get back with more detailed info.

Also I will try to do myself this and to post here all the steps.

The only thing that I can't figure out at the moment is how I can use it to decompose a car.

What document should I use?

Thanks again and you will see me more often here helping
