Hi there,

AtoM is the continuation of ICA-AtoM - with the 2.0 release, we introduced a better search index (Elasticsearch) and changed the look and feel, but it is maintained by the same developers, shares much of the same code base, and is released under the same open source license.

One of the best ways to understand the difference is to take a look at the original 2.0.0 release announcement in the User Forum, here:
I have also outlined some of the differences in the following posts:
As for maintenance of the ICA-AtoM branch:

As you can see from the above posts, we may release minor maintenance versions  (e.g. ICA-AtoM 1.3.2) for security patches and minor bug fixes, and we have hoped that at some point, we might be able to release a final 1.4 version of ICA-AtoM for those users who have decided not to upgrade with us. However, all of Artefactual's current and future development efforts are focused on AtoM 2, and we strongly encourage our users to consider upgrading to AtoM 2. The 1.4 release is theoretical at this point - the code is of course available in our GitHub repository, but it is not stable or packaged for release at this time. No one is sponsoring further maintenance or development of the ICA-AtoM branch, and as a small company, we are unable at this time to dedicate time to freely developing, testing, packaging, and maintaining a 1.4 release for our community - so far work on it has been undertaken out of our desire to leave the ICA-AtoM branch in a good place (for users who do not upgrade to AtoM 2) as we concentrate on moving AtoM 2 forward; it is work our developers have often done off the side of their desks, or whenever it has been possible to merge AtoM 2 fixes back into the ICA-AtoM.

So, in short: while there *may* be a future ICA-AtoM release, we cannot guarantee that Artefactual will be able to undertake the work to prepare and maintain such a release. As well, at some point in the future, we will cease to maintain the ICA-AtoM 1.x branch. For this reason, and because of all the exciting new features, improvements, and bug fixes in the 2.x branch, we strongly encourage users to consider upgrading with us to AtoM 2. The most current release at this time is AtoM 2.1.

Here are a few links to get you started:
