Hi.

Is it possible to hide all archival inst/descrip from users that are not allowed to access them?

I am able to hide the info within these arch inst , but I would like to hide the institution names from users that dont have access to them.

Example:

User "John" when logged in would only to be able to see the 5 institutions that he has acess to,  and not all that are available in atom.

Makes sense?

Hi Charles,

Unfortunately, not really. Via the permissions module, you can only currently restrict access to view pages - but the institutions / descriptions affected by changes in permissions will still be visible where linked to other entities, and in search/browse pages.

The permissions module is also very old, and simply adding more granular permissions options to it will not likely be possible without overhauling it to improve performance and scalability. I've previously written about this at greater length in the following post:
Other development options might  be to add a Publication status to archival institutions. We'd likely need to determine if such a change would also affect all linked descriptions, or have an option for this. There may also be development challenges related to permissions and timeouts with this method, but it works well for Draft descriptions, which are removed from search/browse results as well. Once again however, this is something that would require development sponsorship for Artefactual to be able to implement.

Hi Dan,

Has there been any development on adding a Publication status to archival institutions? Or alternatively a way to hide an archival institution from anonymous/unauthenticated user) (researcher)?

Thanks for any info,
Killian

Hi Killian,

I no longer work on the AtoM project regularly, but: as far as I'm aware, there's still only a publication status for archival descriptions. However, the new Maintainer team has been doing a lot of great work, and there's also a very active community of public contributors right now - so hopefully in the future this will be revisited.

Cheers,
