Other than using Apache instead of Nginx, have you followed the recommended installation instructions?
If so, then you may be encountering a known issue with the web installer. Fortunately, there are some workaround options. See:
In the upcoming 2.7 AtoM release, we have replaced the web installer with a fully command-line based installation process to avoid these kinds of time out issues.
You can always try restarting the web installer process by returning to http://<host>/index.php/sfInstallPlugin/loadData.
If the workarounds suggested in the thread above do not work for you, please provide us with a bit more information - hopefully our team can offer further suggestions. For example:
- What version of AtoM are you trying to install?
- Is this a fresh installation, or are you trying to upgrade a previous installation?
- Are there any other changes you have made to the recommended installation instructions (e.g. Operating System, database, PHP version, search index, etc)? If so, what?
- Is there anything in the Apache error logs relevant to this issue?
