Display of digital images

We are testing AtoM to evaluate whether it meets (some of) our needs.  We have uploaded descriptions of Fonds, Series, and test Items.  We are now testing for upload of digital images with the following results:

Item 1 has 14 images; Item 2 has 5 images; Item 3 has 9 images = 28 images in all.

The parent Series displays the same 28 images (a compound of the images in Items 1, 2, and 3).  The grandparent Fonds also displays the same 28 images.  Presumably if images are imported into Items in other Series belonging to the same Fonds, they will compound also at the Fonds level.

We want the images to display at Item level only.  Is there any command which can prevent images  imported at Item level being displayed at parent Series and grandparent Fonds or remove them once it happens?

Hi Chris,

In the most recent version of AtoM (2.3), you can turn off the digital object carousel via Admin > Settings > Default page elements. There will be a checkbox there, simply uncheck it and the carousel will stop displaying at aggregate levels. See:

Hi Dan,

We have tried this solution but have found that the carousel is either turned off for all levels or is turned on for all levels. Is there a way to have the carousel turn on for only the item level without having the images show up at the parent level?

Thanks

Hi Steven,

My apologies, I misunderstood your use case.

At this time, it's not possible to configure the carousel on a per-level basis. To do so would require development - likely the addition of a new settings page, similar to the one used for the Inventory list settings, where users could select levels of description where the carousel should be included if there are digital objects attached to descendants, and the corresponding code to check and implement the user settings before loading the view page elements.

At this time, such a feature request is not currently on our roadmap, and we'd need to find a community sponsor for Artefactual to be able to take on the work - you can read more about AtoM's development philosohpy and how Artefactual maintains AtoM here:
If your institution is interested in sponsoring such development and would like to work with Artefactual, please feel free to contact me off-list. If you have developers who are interested in trying to implement this and are interested in sharing the feature with the public project, you might want to check out our Developer resources on the AtoM wiki:
The code for the Digital object carousel appears to be here (I'm not a developer, so I might be missing other related files):
For reference, the Inventory settings (if you like that approach) appear to be here:
