HTTP ERROR 500 - install Atom 2.4 on an RHEL7

I am trying to install Atom 2.4 on an RHEL7 server and it displays the following error message in the log:

Hi Julio, 

Unfortunately, we do not test installations on RedHat or other Linux flavors than Ubuntu - there are so many possible distributions, each with different packages available, that we cannot possibly cover them all. Since RHEL is essentially the same as CentOS with a few added features, you might want to look at previous posts tagged in our user forum as centOS:

We have not tested these instructions ourselves, but hopefully they will give you some ideas. 

Further, I tried searching for your error message in the User forum, and the two results I saw that seemed most relevant were the following: 

First, there is this thread about how Apache handles URL rewriting. Note that the .htaccess file sample shown in the response is old (from 2013, before AtoM 2.0 was released) so it may have changed, but this might give you ideas of where to begin looking:

Second, it could have to do with a missing PHP extension - see this thread:

You can also try generating slugs in your database - if the task fails completely, this might indicate that the inconv PHP extension is not installed. From the root directory of your AtoM installation, run: 

• php symfony propel:generate-slugs

You can look over other threads related to your error message for more ideas, but I suggest starting by looking at some of the installation guides, and making sure that you have all necessary PHP extensions and libraries installed.
