Does anyone have any of the 1130 card diagnostic assembler listings in a modern text file.

I have the listings in pdf form from bitsavers, and my own listings with the museums 1130, but the quality is very bad (they are both copies of copies) so OCRing it does not produce good results.

I know the DMS card assembler listings are included with the simulator on 1130.org but this only contains the one card diagnostics. Do similar .asm files exist for the other diagnostics?

I thought I would ask before I attempt to OCR and hand correct them from the low quality PDF files.

I need these for a project I am working on at the museum.

Thanks

I have the GA1830 diagnostic listings. The 1830 is a cross between the 1130 1n 1800. E.G it does not use locations 1,2,3 as XR 123 and it has extra instructions from the 1830 and some from GA. But the 1130 portions may help you.

Hi Peter

I have the card decks for many of the diagnostics and can read them into text files for you. I have a few I did already to check out my 1132, 1053 and the CPU. I only have the diagnostics for the devices that were attached to the machine I bought, thus have 1442 but not 2501 card reader. You can the files and assemble them under the simulator to produce the listings as text files.

Hi Carl,

Ah, I did not realise you had the source decks for the diagnostics as well.

The ones I am after initially are:

0300 Diagnostic Monitor II

0304 Keyboard / console printer test

03AA Relocating Loader

032C 1132 Printer Function Test

03B0 & 03B1 Core Storage Function Test

03A3 Basic Diagnostic Loader

And the CPU test if you already have it.

Note: the test numbers may vary depending on the version but whatever version you have will be good.

Am I right in thinking you may also have some ASCII art decks (for console or line printer) - or am I confusing it with the 1401? If you have the source decks for those, then a few of them would be a bonus for demos at the museum..

Regards,

Peter

Hi Peter

Give me a week or so to hunt all this down.

I do indeed have quite a bit of printer art for the 1130 and can send some good examples.

i'm interested as well, but lacking of a 1403, is there a way to obtain the effect of characters overlap on an image perhaps? it would be a nice software project if not :)

Lucio: there is a package named HercPrt that the mainframe emulator folks use to convert line printer files into PDFs. It has a windows program in it named txt2pdf32.exe that takes care of the conversion, and knows about carraige control and can do overlap. It works great on ascii art, and can give the effect of greenbar paper and sprocket holes.

There are many other txt2pdf programs, but the one at http://homerow.net/rexx/txt2pdf/ can also do the conversion. It requires a REXX interpreter.

All: The mainframe and PDP emulator folks have several collections of vintage ascii art:
"IBM line printer 'ASCII' art by Samuel P. Harbison.zip" (need to google search for this)

...and bitsavers has a relatively new collection of line printer art:

Hi Carl,
I was looking for the CPU diagnostics and came across this post. Are the diagnostics available from somewhere?

Thanks

Hi Paul,

It's the MDP files,  although one is missing the cpu one is in A01.

There are some under the 1130-C folder but thats for the slower 1130 system.

Sadly the quality is not good enough for OCR as I found out and Carl did not have the source code card sets he thought he had  when he looked and I have never found a better quality listing since. I am still looking by the way :)

Note the diags were actually compiled on a 360, not the 1130 as far as I remember, or maybe that was DMS. It's been a few months since I have had a chance to use our 1130 at TNMOC.

If you need binary sets, they are included in the 1130 simulator from ibm1130.org

Hope that helps,

Regards,

Peter

Thanks. I will investigate. I know that DMS was built on the 360. Don’t know about the diagnosrics

hello Peter,
i'm asking to some old friends but nothing so far, did you try Google Drive OCR? it is magic with ordinary texts but i don't know how it can work with a programming source code, the most of the work is made by vocabulary which is of no help with source code

if nothing works we could divide the work of correcting source among few volunteers

I tried Google Drive OCR. I loaded the file and started to read it yesterday. It still shows as running 24 hours later so I assume it does not work.

Paul,

it means that the document is too large to be processed at once, it happened to me too. You can try with a smaller document, i mean 10-15 pages max.

After I realized that on my own, I tried dividing the file. The file was processed but would not be usable.

i had a look at bitsavers.org to peek at the listing but was unable to find it, may you guide me to the right place?

I was just looking for a typical sample to try different OCR readers so I took the MDP_A01 file from here

I tried running a few pages through AWS Texttract, but the output would be extremely difficult to make useful. Here's the sample pages and output.

test-small.pdf are the pages I extracted. test-small.zip is Amazon's output. It looks like the json file describes the pages one unit at a time with xy coordinates and contents.

That might be a fun program to write: reassemble the textracted assembler program.

;)

Regards,
Bob

THis was another attempt to upload the results. The first time, the contents were too big.
