Executive Committee and Executive Directors,
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
I tried to include as many directors as possible on this email but I know I missed some directors. With the sudden “retirement” of NIADA CEO Voltmann I think it would be in the best interest of our members if we met with the NIADA Board to see what their vision is for the next CEO and where they intend to find that person. As association directors I think our input would be essential in guiding them to find a qualified committed individual to lead NIADA. Your thoughts?

Couple of thoughts:
I believe the “selection” committee is the NIADA Board. I don’t expect, nor would I advise, that body to relinquish such a responsibility. I believe the committee the NIADA Board should appoint, if they so desire, is a “search” committee. I realize Dave used the term “hiring” committee in his email and that may even be the term Scott Allen used, but I believe the responsibility of the appointed committee would be more inline with building a candidate profile and helping to identify qualified candidates who meet such a profile. But, that is just my guess. Ultimately, the board would and should be the selection committee.
Anyway, I am fine meeting with some representation of the NIADA Board (whoever they feel should be on the call), as long as there is an agenda. However, I do not feel I need to meet with the entire board, a selection committee, or a search committee – unless I am ask for input.
Thanks,
Jeffery Lee Martin

Dave,
I appreciate the update on their process but it sounds like they are traveling down the wrong road looking for another outsider to consider for the job. They made the wrong choice with Bob not because he wasn’t qualified simply because he could not connect with our industry. It will be the members of the NIADA board that will select the next CEO and I believe that person is right in front of them.
Since we as a group understand what is needed in a CEO/Executive Director to successfully lead an owner association then they should want our guidance. Remember they are car dealers and car dealers find it hard to admit they made a mistake. As a prior dealer believe me I know.
I attached the NIADA Strategic Plan which they gave us but did not fulfill for the new CEO/Directors to review. We all want what is best for our members Dave please set up the meeting.

Subject: RE: NIADA Meeting
Yes Jeff, the duties as described by Scott are that of a search committee. Scott believes it is likely a search firm will be hired and that firm will work with the search committee to determine search criteria. I expect the search committee will then make an eventual recommendation to the board.

I appreciate the information and forwarding their Strat Plan! I need to take another look at that.
Who are we thinking/recommending for the position? Do, we, as a group has someone in mind.
