So over past couple weeks I thought I had been losing my mind in seeing flashes of monk parakeets near where I live. I usually see a bird and registers as a species and don’t think about it being out of ordinary most of time.

Today I saw a maybe eight Monk parakeets near Euclid and 7th Street harassing a Cooper’s Hawk in a tree. I just watched them and didn’t pull out phone to try to take a picture because why are there Monk
parakeets in Iowa? Am I seeing this right?

I searched online and there are records from 2020. Anyone have anything regarding monk parakeets?

Thanks!

Looks like there may have been a nesting attempt in 2020-2021, no one kept an eye on it because they "werent countable".  Not impossible that the pair was...eventually successful and you're seeing the subsequent family group.
