For some reason, the electrical industry likes to portion wire onto wastefully-bulky, brittle, awful spools. And when they break, they're such a pain to use that people donate them to us thinking we'll still use the wire because it's cheap.
They're right, but it's still a pain.
So, I made up some parts that make it easy to wind orphaned wire onto filament spools. They're great -- durable, small, and almost always exactly the same size. Being the same size makes them SO much easier to organize and store!
(On that page, you can see a whole stack of bulky empty wooden spools which were each only holding a little bit of wire, and the new stack of filament spools doing the same job in a lot less space!)
Trouble is, I don't go through enough filament to produce nearly enough empty spools for all the wire I'd like to clean up and organize! And the brand we use at work has switched to cardboard spools, which aren't quite as sturdy as the plastic ones.
This is where you come in -- if you have some empty plastic spools around, can you bring them to i3? If you're not a member, a great option is to pop in during Friday Night Tours. Just leave 'em in the graveyard (your tour host can show you where that is), and I'll swing by every few days to pick up the new arrivals.
Thanks in advance!
