Hello, I was wondering if you could tell me if Hugin would be helpful for my unique application and how I might set up the parameters to do it.

I have a work of art I am trying to archive.  It is old and what I have to work with are actually scans of reproductions of the work from different sources.  Each scan had problems with content.  Some had creases, others had areas which had been damaged, etc.  I have narrowed the scans down to 3 which give me coverage of the entire piece of work.

These three scans however are of different resolutions and from different sized reproductions.  There are very slight skew issues as well.

To gain the coverage of the image, I have cut these scans into 10 pieces I need to stitch together,  Photoshop's Photomerge gets close, but I would like a little more control.

I tried following the tutorial for splicing together scanned images.

I loaded up the images and set a bunch of manual matching points between the images, however I think it assumes the same resolution in each image and therefore does attempt to correct for zoom (scale)

After running the optimizer as discussed I get a mess on the preview age which is not matched well at all, and appears to have strange perspective added to it.

Any help would be appreciated.

You probably need to set a new lens for each of the scanned images.
If you are using a version of Hugin prior to the 2013 release candidate
(new gui), the tutorial on "Stitching photos from different lenses" will
show you how to set a new lens.
If you are using the 2013 version, after loading your images, in the
"Photos" tab select image 2, in the right mouse button menu select "Lens >
New lens", and repeat that for image 3, 4..etc, so all have a different
lens.
See if that helps, if not come back and tell us what happened.

Cheers,

Hello,

According to the Help-About information I am running  version 2012.0.0.a6e4184ad538 built by Matthew Petroff which was downloaded yesterday,

As per the tutorial, I made sure each image had its own lens.

To add, I think a key is, if I understand the transform correctly, after point matching is completed, you move to the optimizer where you select what transforms you are going to allow to match the images.  In the tutorial it is assumed the images are of the same resolution and so the only transforms needed to match/stitch the image are translations of X, and Y.

Are you using rectilinear projection?

Yes

One other thing that springs to mind, is that the image in the preview
window isn't centred and causing the distorted view.
If that is the case, try using "Move/Drag" tab (left click and drag to
move the image, right click and drag to rotate) to centre the image and
see if that makes an improvement.
It is difficult to be certain of the cause of your problems without more
detail.
Are you able to make available two of your overlapping images, which show
the problem, and the .pto file?
If you can do that, maybe via Dropbox or a similar site, we can look a bit
more closely at what is happening.

This appears to be the problem.  I started the project over form scratch, loading up the images , adding the control points and running the optimizer and had a decent looking output.  I then accidently clicked in the preview window and suddenly the component images were no longer stitched and all had the weird perspective view on them.  I could not get them back in their original alignment/plane.

Is there anyway to tell Hugin , "render this panorama back on the default plane"? or what am I doing there.  I am unable to recover the project from this point and must start anew.

You should be able to "undo".
In the preview window, go to "Edit > Undo".

Thanks, I will look for that, but isn't there a default rendering plane that you can enter in?

Don't know the answer to that.
Hopefully someone can answer that for you.
