Hi

I’ve previously used Hugin perfectly easily, but am now unable to get it to work, and have no idea why.

I last used it in 2016 to align about 100 images that I took over a five year period, and made this great video, if anyone wants to see the output: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsMJ9HrAY-I

I now have another two years worth of photos (edited down to about 40 actual images) and want to repeat this, but can’t get it to quite reproduce what it did previously.

Last time I used it, in 2016, I got hugin to align the photographs perfectly (as you can see from the video).  I’m not sure what I’m missing in that I’m now not able to get it to repeat this.  I still have the original .pto file and 2016 photo set, as well as the 2018, and have been using various combinations of these to get the 2018 set to align.

I’ve been at it for about six hours, and have done the following…

1)      Using the original .pto file and original unaligned 2016 photo set.  This does work, an reproduces the aligned photographs that can be seen in the video

2)      Using the original .pto file with new photographs.  This doesn’t work- photos don’t align.

3)      Using the original .pto tile with the 2016 photos and the 2018 photos in one set.  (I obviously create some new control points to do this).  This doesn’t work on the 2018 photos, although interestingly, it still aligns the 2016 ones

4)      Creating a new .pto file, and using this on the new photos only.  This doesn’t work- photos don’t align.

Like I said, the error may be completely obvious, but I’ve reached the stage where I can’t see the wood for the trees.  Any assistance much appreciated – I’m completely out of ideas!  Photo sets are too large to upload here, (>300MB) but I'm happy to share by other means (dropbox or whatever) if people think they may be able to use them to diagnose.

Many Thanks

Stephen

(additional point 1 - new photographs were taken using the same camera from the same location - thought I ought to mention that)

I'm a little bit lost with your information. I don't understand all you tried.

That's expecting.

2)      Using the original .pto file with new photographs.  This doesn’t work- photos don’t align.
How can the original pto file work with new photographs? Simply replacing the image file? This won't work - you need to create the control points for the new images and optimize again.

3)      Using the original .pto tile with the 2016 photos and the 2018 photos in one set.  (I obviously create some new control points to do this).  This doesn’t work on the 2018 photos, although interestingly, it still aligns the 2016 ones
After creating the new control point did you reoptimized the project? Simply creating cp is not enough.

4)      Creating a new .pto file, and using this on the new photos only.  This doesn’t work- photos don’t align.
How did you created the new pto file? Hugin should align the images: either running the assistant after loading the images or create control points and optimize the position manually should result in an aligned result.
