Minor triumph

I had a very detailed, VERY old map of part of a town.
I had a large, quite old map of a larger part of the town.
Google Earth gave me an image of the current (totally redevelopted)
area of the first map.

The two old maps were rotated w.r.t. to North, and all 3 image were
at different scales.

I was able to use Hugin to tie both the old detailed map, and the
current google earth map to the large intermediate
map, and thus use google to get an accurate lat/long
fix for all the location of interest on the old, detailed map.

Hugin's transform optimisation was particularly valuable, since
it transpired that some of the most distinctive building and
landmarks on the older maps had been drawn larger
than they should accuretely be, for emphasis.

Notably, the version of the Church on the map nearly filled
the churchyard, which is not the case in reality.

Setting lots of CPs and optimisation revealed (and eliminated
the error from) these quirks.

This sounds like something I’d love to look at, being a bit of a mapping nerd myself.
Do you have the images available somewhere publicly?

I've attached the project file, which shows how the tieing together
was done.

To use the result, I output a multi layer tiff using nona,
and did final image generation in Gimp.

I thought if maybe the final result is somewhere publicly available, so we can admire what has been done without having access to old maps ourselves :)
