Hi all,

today we are releasing a first beta of Hugin 2018.0. (The final release will not be this year, therefor I called it 2018.0)

Source tarball can be downloaded
at sourceforge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hugin/files/hugin/hugin-2018.0/hugin-2018.0beta1.tar.bz2/download
or at launchpad: https://launchpad.net/hugin/2018.0/2018.0beta1/+download/hugin-2018.0beta1.tar.bz2

Verify its checksums:
md5: ca73a7566423ed7147efe04ad6bff0c2  hugin-2018.0beta1.tar.bz2
sha1: 7e61d268f0b164218003f4be90ad007e460fbc32  hugin-2018.0beta1.tar.bz2

This is a source code release.
Users communities produce executables for their respective platforms. Please announce them here.

(The beta 1 correspond to changeset 5089f6e3961e in our repository, which is also tagged as 2018.0 beta1).

Changes since 2017.0

The version 2018.0 is mainly a bug fix release and introduce some minor new features.
* Several improvements for optimizer tabs:
   **mark deselected images
** allow changing optimizer variables for all selected images at once
** option to ignore line cp
* hugin_stacker: New tool to stack overlapping images with several averaging modes (e.g. mean, median).
* Hugin: Added option to disable auto-rotation of images in control point and mask editor.
* Nona, verdandi and hugin_stacker can now write BigTIFF images (for files >4 GB). The output of BigTIFF has to manually activated on the command line. It is not set automatically. (For a complete panorama in BigTIFF you will probably also need enblend/enfuse from repository. The last released version of enblend does not yet support writing BigTIFF files.)
* Added expression parser to GUI: This allows to manipulate several image variables at once. (This is the same as running pto_var --set from the command line.) This can be used e.g. to prealign the images in a given setup and then run cpfind --prealigned to search control points only in overlapping images.
* Add user-defined assistant and expose it in the GUI. It allows to set up different assistant strategies without the need to recompiling. Provide also some examples (scanned images, multi-row panoramas with orphaned images, single-shot panorama cameras).

Upgrading from previous versions of Hugin should be seamless. If you do have problems with old settings, these can be reset in the Preferences window by clicking 'Load defaults'.

A first draft of release notes can be found at http://hugin.sourceforge.net/releases/2018.0.0/en.shtml

IMPORTANT
This is also a call for translators. Please update your translation files. Some new strings have been added.

Please test and report bug/issues to mailing list or bug tracker https://bugs.launchpad.net/hugin

The user defined output sequence and user defined assistant can be extended for some use cases. We can ship with some more file or provide them for download (when they are more special). If you have questions or want to include your use case/file post to the mailing list.

I look forward to seeing support in enblend. Are there any workarounds until then?

Great job on the release.

Either use enblend/enfuse from the repository (self-compiled or nightlies) or use Hugins internal blender/verdandi.

For Gentoo, I've added an ebuild to my overlay. There seems to be a
compiling issue with gcc-5.4, the attached patch seems to fix the

Very strange. I tested with gcc 5.3 before. (And now also with gcc 7.3.) All compiled fine. So I don't understand why your compiler chokes.
Nevertheless I committed the changes to the repository. Thanks for the patch.

Hi Thomas,

I'm sorry. Those were correctly translated but poedit still thinks they are fuzzy. For two of them it is because the original has a key-shortcut, like "&Photos", which is "Fotos" in Dutch, so no Ctrl-Key combinations possible with a "P". These kind of translations I always leave as fuzzy.
Two others were simply"not accepted" by poedit, while I'm 100% sure of the translation, compared to others that were accepted but where I'm personally not 100% as how to translate some english pano jargon to Dutch.

Anyway, I de-flagged the fuzzy ones now.

See attached.

Kind regards,

Just as comment: fuzzy strings won't be translated in the GUI. So on place of the fuzzy strings there appears the English text.
With the ampersand I think you mix things up: The shortcuts (combination with the Ctrl/command key) are not translated and are not included in the po file. The ampersand in the text is used as menu mnemonic - so you can open fast a menu item when pressing the underlined character (=the character after the ampersand). (Or with Alt+character open the top menu). So you can use another characters for the mnemonic in your translation. You have only to check that in each sub-menu each character is only used once. (Otherwise you iterate through all menu items with the same character and need to press return explicit.)
For instance the English text "&Quit" is in German "&Beenden".

Ok,

I didn't know that about the fuzzy translations. I simply thought that every translated string would be picked up.
I will alter the two fuzzy strings with the ampersand and look for an available shortcut-character.
To be honest: I didn't touch Hugin for quite some time now. It's more that I still feel "loyal" to the project.

I would expect the translation file then to contain
"&Quit" -> "&Beenden"

for german. This would trigger a shortcut involving the B when german
language is selected.

When there is no letter available, I would expect the PO file to
have something like:

"&Quit" -> "afsluiten"

to indicate that no hotkey is available in the Dutch translation.

It would be wrong/fuzzy if you change the source text:

"Quit" -> "afsluiten"

Right?

So looking for a hotkey is desirable, but not essential.

Builds almost out of the box with FreeBSD. As with previous versions,
I need this patch to allow builds to proceed:

Packages available if anybody is interested. I won't commit this to
the ports tree, but the release version will follow quickly.

Thank you for the new beta!

I have a little feature suggestion: could you please change in hugin1/hugin/config_defaults.h , line "%firstimage - %lastimage" , with a default file name without the space in the middle? "%firstimage-%lastimage"

Thank you in advance and keep up the great work!

Thanks. I'm testing it right now. What features are new in the 2018 beta to be tested?
The Windows installer does not contain enblend and enfuse, fortunately I made a backup of the 2017 version, that was removed during the installation (it should never be removed, I still keep the 2014 beta version, because it detects horizontal lines :) ).
I have reported a new bug. When Windows search box was used to find an image, the Assistant wants to save in search results, not in the folder.

Read the first post.

The Windows installer does not contain enblend and enfuse,
 I uploaded a new installer with enblend/enfuse:
MD5 checksum a1f7a6d87fae51de6162e640015f4f57
(the old installer was deleted)

I have reported a new bug. When Windows search box was used to find an image, the Assistant wants to save in search results, not in the folder.
This is not reproducible. In this case I get a message box and it will not save in the search result.

In the case of "Quit" -> "afsluiten", I have chosen in this example for  "&Quit" -> "Afsl&uiten". As the first character A is already used in Ctrl-A on every OS.
However, this one was already in the very first complete translation to Dutch I did somewhere in 2005 or 2006. I can't remember to have seen it afterwards :)

There is no reason whatsoever to always use the first character.
I used to use Hugin on several pcs/laptops having different OS languages.
That is why Ctrl-C, Ctrl-P and Ctrl-X are the same in every language.
Shortcuts should be as much as possible the same in every language. Only when it is not possible you need to deviate, like in "&Quit" -> "&Beenden" or  "&Quit" -> "Afsl&uiten".
But to make it as standard as possible, I chose for "&Next Tip -> Volge&nde Tip", and "&Show tips at startup -> Toon tip&s tijdens starten"

Please check in big progams for several languages.

Anyway, attached an nl.po with all fuzzy translations "fixed".
Improvements are always welcome.

Now I have a new problem.

It works for me, I see the indicators with the same configuration. The difference is probably that I activate the setting to always display the mnemonics in the Windows control panel. (It should be in the classic control panel Ease of Access Center\Make the keyboard easier to use\Make it easier to use keyboard shortcuts -> Underline keyboard shortcuts and access key, you will have probably a Hungarian translation of these labels)

Hi Thomas,

I think I found the indicated windows settings. In hungarian windows 10 x64  "underline fast keys enable" but even if I turn this on, the function doesn't work in any combination only now I see the the keys underlined. Is there supposed to be a shortcut key for the "show all" button too to open the context menu?

Please write down step by step how it is supposed to work with the shortcut keys.

At other places in the program the shortcut keys work with the alt+"x" combination but in this context menu after I open it with the right mouse button and then I press the alt key it disappears.

I uploaded to Launchpad the translated hu.po file. I think it is ok. All messages translated. Unique underline characters set for context menu.

Happy New Year,
Lajos

When the "show all" button has the focus, the context menu button works for me. (But I have not found a way to focus the button with the keyboard alone.)

At other places in the program the shortcut keys work with the alt+"x" combination but in this context menu after I open it with the right mouse button and then I press the alt key it disappears.
The alt+"x" combination works only to open the top menu. When the top menu is open, the underline character alone (without alt) activates the corresponding menu item.
The same applies to the context menu: so press only the underlined character (without alt key).

Sorry I'm new to this group and program. I installed it yesterday on my macbook and it worked just fine. today it wouldn't let me start without showing me an error message (see attachment)
anyone know how to handle this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Thomas,

Thank you so much for your help. I have now found the functions and they work although very tricky.

Best regards.
Lajos
