I opened Horos today and all of my previous files (including ones that were locked) are gone.  The database is completely empty!  Any idea what's happening here?

Did you figure this out? I had the same thing happen today. All of the files are still in the same location on my hard drive but Horos is not connecting to them. If I double-click on any of the images, I get an error message "No files available (readable)".

Hi –

A potential cause for this is related to iCloud Drive synchronization implemented by macOS since Sierra.

Loss of data can happen in case synchronization of Desktop / Documents folder is active on two or more stations. Horos database is kept in Document folders, but if you have two mac computers, both with Horos installed, same Apple ID, and synchronization of the referred folders active, data corruption/loss can happen.

In version 3.0 of Horos, which is planned to have release candidates in early February we will be handling/warning about this situation right in the software.

In attachment, screenshots that shows you how to disable the synchronization I mentioned.

Just be careful if disabling this function won’t affect your work in other directions.

Sorry for this inconvenience, we are already working to make Horos compatible with this Apple feature.

Please let me know if that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply:) I don’t use iCloud drive but I double-checked to make sure that folder wasn’t selected. My database is also just on one computer. When I first imported this particular study, I used the option to link the files rather than copy to the Horos database... so my source dicoms were all in a folder outside Horos.

I just re-imported the same study, and chose to copy the files directly to the Horos database this time, and everything appears to be working fine. It seems like the links to the source files might have been broken somehow...not sure why. The only thing I’ve done since the last time I was in Horos was a Time Machine backup.

Thanks again

You are welcome.

I will consider the evidences you shared aiming at investigating some potential bug with the symlink mechanism.

Thanks for using Horos

This just happened to me too.  I have no idea why I lost my whole database other than I connected my phone to charge?  I have done this many times without losing my horos database and I don't have horos on my phone.

Very confused.

Fauze, or Purview angel,

It has been so long since any meaningful posts on this issue I am posting it again.
I understand that there is an issue if iCloud syncing has been enabled or the app is in use on more than one computer.
However, it is scary to remove all traces of the program from one computer AND iCloud Drive before activating the other, for fear of total loss.

When launching Horos on a new computer, there IS indeed now an iCloud Drive sync warning, but how should one respond to the warning?
If you disable syncing (make it local only), and cancel iCloud Drive sync, how do you transfer old files to a new computer please?
I should have the latest Horos version, since I just downloaded it yesterday, and Mac is now on to OS Ventura 13.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
