Virtual Dragons Race to Enlightenment

As many of you will know, this weekend is usually around the time we hold the annual Dragons Race to Enlightenment - a no-holds barred smash fest to the Buddha.

With the long weekend approaching, marking among other things Buddha’s birthday, the race will continue, but within the new rules of maintaining social distancing, and other good habits designed to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus.

So from Thursday sun up to Sunday sun down - the course is open for anyone who wants to try their hand at racing up to the Buddha as fast as they can! However, please do not go in groups any larger than four. Consider it, as Paul Wright has called it: an ITT to  Enlightenment.

The route is on the following Strava link and that is where all times will be taken too: https://www.strava.com/segments/3616961

Please take some time to study the route if you have not done it before. You will see that it takes in one of Hong Kong’s hardest hills -  the Beast -  and then a steep descent into a glorious flattish section before the final climb to the Buddha! It has something for everyone and over the years has attracted some great cyclists and seen some fantastic winners. The current holders are new Dad Philippe Cosentino and Christina Hudson.

You can see previous results and write-ups below.

Please bear in mind there are road works on the descent of the reverse Beast. I've not seen them myself yet but it is there and if you can't stop in time the only course of action is to move to the wrong side of the road, not a nice place to be!

Good to know Dan! Thank you

Has anyone seen these and can advise where they are on the hill - near the top , midway towards the bottom ?

Luckily the reverse beast has pretty good visibility even though the road winds a bit

I didn't see any road works yesterday on either side of the Beast itself when I did the course (clearly two days prematurely... <face-palm>). Although there are two sets of road works around Cheung Sha, A few of the regular abyss sized holes in the road and many many cars. On the upside, there are zero tour buses and the BUddha was empty.
Weather cracking! Oh and for those requiring a socially distant beer and burger, China Bear is open and Mui Wo ferry running.
