I am a bit at loss where to look or how to solve this problem.
So I have had the hl2 for quite a while. Has always worked well with Thetis and other software.
I didn't use it for like 8 months and i began to use it again like a month ago. I updated the thetis version to the latest beta and then the latest stable release.
However thetis loses connection with the hl2 (or the other way around) after a while. This could be after 5 min or hours.

By losing connection I mean that thetis show a message that the connection has been lost. And reception / waterfall /etc are gone. Clicking the power button in thetis works sometimes to make it work again but not always.
Sometimes I have to close Thetis and it works and sometimes I have to restart the hl2 and thetis.

Now the strange thing is that during the weekend with the contest I left the computer and the hl2 powered on. And I did not loose the connection ...

So what are the things I tried.
- turned off power saving in windows
- removedThetis (including the database) and reinstalled it
- played with the watchdog setting

The HL2 and the pc are connected to the same network switch. I haven't had any hickups with other devices connected to it. Everything is connected with cables (no wifi)
So I am not sure what to make of this. Is this a software or hardware issue ?
Everything seems to work fine till randomly Thetis loses the connection.
When the connection is lost the yellow link led as well as the green activity of the ethernet connection (on the hl2) go out as well as most of the orange status leds. (reset of the hl2 hw ?)

It also happens when in RX. I also replaced the virtual audio cable with a more recent version to rule that part out as well.

Something similar has happened to me also during last weekend (contest) - when I pulled my laptop closer to me (on the desk) = connection went lost, and I can reestablish it immediately.

In my case, I'm sure, it's just a flaky ethernet cable that I haven't replaced yet, I rarely slide the laptop around.

I am going to try a few things to troubleshoot this.
But I had hope that there was a way to “see” more what the issue could be. (Like logs)

I am familiar with the bad network cable issue but that was more reproducable. I once had a computer at an event  hooked up to an utp cable that was not so twisted (a pair was just straight). Rolled up it worked fine, rolled off all kinds of errors happened (dropped packets).

But here the cable doesn’t move. Desktop computer and the hl2 is sitting on a table. And this weekend I had no issues at all.
I can still test a few things so we’ll see what comes out of it.

Good luck!  Let us know what you find.

My first guess still network issues. (Just short of Wireshark) I'd open a terminal window running constant pinging to monitor network connectivity (PING <your HL2 IP> /t)

Try it with different software and failing that with a different OS  and different software.  You can narrow down if it's software or hardware.  Probably not Thetis. Could easily be a Windows update gone wrong.
