HL2 with Juma 1000

Could anyone help with information on how to get band information from HL2 to the Juma 1000? Any assistance or reference would be greatly appreciated.

I use a Node Red flow to connect my HL2 to my Juma PA100D.  It also allows me to control the amp remotely.

I have 150w eBay amp that is a clone of the Juma.  The Juma and this clone is compatible with the FT-817 band volts.  I am trying to go that route with controlling the bands.

Can you please explain your setup.  I am familiar with node red and automation but explain your please.  How are you interfacing with the Hermes/computer and amp.  

Ideally I’d like to a non computer interface with the amp so I can connect to the Hermes remotely, not requiring the computer local to the Hermes.

I too have a Juma PA1000 and have my HL2 directly 'driving' it for band selection + PTT.

I extract the HL2's frequency over serial and convert that to BCD in an Arduino Mega as I do additional operations on the data (switch remote antennas and display feedback info on an LCD).

My code is probably somewhat crude, (as I'm absolutely not a coder (and 'stole' parts of it from the interweb!) but it gets the job done and could be relatively easily made to run on an Arduino Nano as the interface between an HL2 and amplifier.

Having the HL2 'drive' the output is my prefered option as it doesn't mean you might be otherwise 'tethered' to the HL2 if using PC/USB converters etc to the amp and you are not limited to one particular software either.

I don't have the new HL2 interface and my options for interfacing were limited some years ago.

Not sure what is possible now on the new HL2 interface?

What you have in the way of interfacing on your HL2 (and possibly what software you use) will influence what you can do.

Thank you, Charlie and Nigel for your input. I have the I/O board installed and was wondering if that board could be used to convert the HL2 band info to BCD output readable by the Juma.

Still trying to figure out the simplest way to do the job ...

It is very easy to convert the frequency band to BCD pattern per band with the IO Board.  I do that for all my VHF bands 50Mhz and higher for my 5 band transverter.  I have posted the code changes in previous posts here.  In my case I am emulating the K3 VHF BCD patterns.  There are high and low outputs on the IO Board that you jumper to the 9pin connector.  I also echo PTT and run it to a pin on the same cable.

Well, every setup is different.  There is no best or easiest way to proceed.  I can therefore only speak about myself.  Personally, I think CAT and serial control are optimal.  It is also the easiest (imho) to implement.  USB/RS232 adapter/converter, you usually already have it or it can be purchased immediately.  A 2-wire cable, TX -> RX and ground/ground - done.  With additional (commercial  and expensive) band decoders or the detour I/O board to BCD - you can do that and if it works then it works.  It may not belong here, but when it comes to antenna switching, CAT is much more flexible because it depends on the frequency (different antennas for same band or switchable matching network).  If you do this consistently, you can easily exchange almost any TRX WITHOUT having to start over again every time. No more Cable DJing. Only my bandpass filters are still controlled with BCD,... with the Anan and OpenCollector.... that still has to go or change.

My HL2 is optically isolated from the computers which operate it. Using USB would break that isolation. No PA yet, but I would need a solution that controls the PA from the HL2, not from the computer.

Almost anyone using remote operation probably needs the same - USB serial is not an option.

I have the same 150W Juma clone from Ebay.  I'm controlling the amp through the I/O addon board via stepped voltage (FT-817) config. The one issue I ran into was that I needed to wire the ring and sleeve together on the stereo (TRS) cable for the amp to see the voltage and change bands. At least that's what I remember doing at the time. I meant at some point to revisit that but haven't yet.

I use the latter (AMP: KX3/no polling, THETIS: CAT to amp/Kenwood TS2000 & "Allow Kenwood AI Command" activated in options) with my JUMA PA100-D v4.1

I am not using an IO board with the HL2.  The control is via USB->RS232 from my PC running Thetis to the JUMA PA-100D.

I am worried that I might have damaged  the amp trying, unsuccessfully, to update the firmware. Or I have mistakenly changed a setting on Thetis.

Before when I engage PTT and talk the watt meter on RS-928(juma clone) would move with my voice as I would expect from SSB. Now it does not it, power stays up regardless of voice or silence. In addition, no one can apparently hear me.
I tried holding the Oper button (reset?) but it does not do reset.

Thoughts?

I may try it on a different radio to rule out a thetis or HL2 problem.
