Linux HL2 and WSJTX

Hi everyone.

I have been trying to get virtual audio to and from WSJTX.
I have been trying the HL2 version of LinHPSDR.

I have also messed around with Quick but had issues there. I don’ remember exactly what they were.

Right now I have a fresh copy of Linux Mint 21 on the computer but have also tried Ubuntu 22.

Cn someone detail what has to be done?
I’m not tied to Linux Mint or LinHPSDR of some other Linux version or software will work better.

I am using an old Core i5 NUC4 with Linux Mint and WSJT-X along with several well known SDR apps including Quisk, SparkSDR, PiHPSDR.  

I had to try several audio sources, some worked better than others. I found best success with ALSA device interfaces.  Quisk typically will create the Loopback audio for you.

Additionally. In Quisk on Mint mine is using the pulse:xxxxx devices OK.  The loopback is created when Quisk is running only, shows as QuuskDigitalInput.monitor fir example in WSJTX list.  WSJTX must be start after the first run of Quisk so the devices get created initially.

Add to the file /etc/modules: snd-aloop  and  I have in /etc/modprobe.d a file called sound.conf  what contains the line,

options snd-aloop enable=1,1 index-10,11

I use SparkSDR  and there for the audio input/output you'll see devices like 'Loopback: PCM (hw:0,0)', etc. showing up.

Choose for audio output: Loopback: PCM (hw:1,1) and for audio input: Loopback: PCM (hw:0,0)

In WSJTX  you need for audio input: plughw:CARD=Loopback_1, DEV 0  and for audio output: plughw:CARD=Loopback, DEV 1

I'm using Quisk together with WSJT-X however I just start WSJT-X on my own rather than have Quisk launch it.  Quisk creates a loopback pair of audio devices when it starts which makes things easy.

In Quisk once you have gone to the Radios tab and created an HL2 entry you then move to the tab for the HL2 radio and select the sound tab.  For Digital Tx0 Input select pulse: Use name QuiskDigitalInput from the drop down list. For Digital Rx0 Output select pulse: Use name QuiskDigitalOutput.monitor  Then go to the remote tab and enter the IP address and port for Hamlib rig control.  Tune Quisk and use DGT-U for the mode.  This mode will use the Digital audio I/O.

In WSJT-X  Settings--> Audio Input is QuiskDigitalOutput.monitor and Output is QuiskDigitalInput.  On the Radio tab Rig is Hamlib Net rigctl and for Cat control Network server enter IP Address:Port to match the port you selected in Quisk.

Install pavucontrol if not already installed and you can use the fader controls in it to fine tune the audio levels.

I think that is all.  From now on just start Quisk and then start WSJT-X and it will be all set.

I have it working.

I think that most of my issues were caused by not restarting Quisk after changes.

Some could have been an older version that apt-get installed.

One more thing I have been wondering about.

Is it possible to run more than one copy of Quisk with different radios, maybe using a config file or something?
