Dear all,

since there is interest in the CW Keyer Shield, I have updated the software and
produced a hex file for loading into the Teensy4, for those who have difficulties
compiling from the sources with the audio library changed to 48k.
It is in

github.com:dl1ycf/TeensyWinkeyEmulator.git

the file TeensyWinkeyEmulator.ino.TEENSY40.hex.

Changes:

- activated Mic Bias
- set Mic preamp levels to 0.5 for both channels
(left: Mic jack, right: MEMS microphone)

Since there is no API for mic input parameters, I am willing to
produce a limited number of hex files with individual settings,
namely

Bias at mic jack on/off
preamp level for mic jack 0.0 - 1.0
preamp level for mems 0.0 - 1.0

since Bias is detrimental for those using a dynamic microphone
with integrated preamp.

Yours,

Christoph DL1YCF.

I can confirm that both channels of the mic input are now working, with
the MEM mic on one channel and my headset mic on the other. I was able
to use the windows sound control to remove the MEM mic by taking its
level to zero.

I did have to go and learn how to program the Teensy again. There is a
teensy.exe download tool on the Teensy site
https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/loader.html

I'm assuming that anybody looking to get a Shield will have to buy their
own Teensy 4.0? It might be worth while getting one now and learning the
ins and outs of getting it setup.

Cheers

Christoph, thanks a lot for that! I'm coordinating the group buy for the keyers and so far we have interest on more than 60 units so that is a lot! I have a test unit that Steve sent me and I will try your hex this weekend. After we make the group buy I'll try to out together a good "wiki"for the keyer. For those interested in the group buy you can sign up here: https://forms.gle/VyNgU6yXneUm5Cq58

Christoph/Reid, I'm trying to come out with a test plan for Makerfabs for the CW Keyer Shield group buy and I'm wondering: What's the purpose of the onboard MEMS Microphone? Does the Microphone input is meant to use a regular Mic for Voice/Data modes along with the PTT Input? My apologies if these questions are Dumb, I'm fairly new to CW and CW hardware besides keys, just trying to provide some payback to these awesome project and community.

Thanks in Advance!

MEMS microphones are available, cheap, take up hardly any board space, and are easy to connect to the codec, so Steve connected one to one channel of the codec audio input.   The external microphone connects to the other audio input channel.

I had a quick look back into the archive of the list and this is the first thread about the keyer. That should give a bit more insight into the design of the circuit.
