Chuck Linton of Milano Music sent out this note regarding the potential sale of the Green Lot to a developer and its closure for 20 months.

His message follows below.

2025 Green Lot Proposal

After speaking with a few students I felt I should make you aware of an important project proposed to occur next year in the back parking lot of Milano Music (38 W Main St.

The city has proposed selling the parking lot to a developer who will be building more apartments in the Green Lot behind Milano Music (38 W Main).  It's estimated to take about 20 months.  During this time, students would need to park in the Pepper Place garage or behind the piano store and walk around down the alleys.

I’ve spoken to the city and city council in opposition to the project because I see it having a negative effect on our business during the construction, particularly the lesson department students 6PM-9PM.  The first step they voted on was to "begin talks" on the project, stating that nothing is official.

I’ve attended a few meetings with fellow downtown businesses and while we agree that once the apartments are finished and parking is restored, the apartments may benefit our business. We felt that finding solutions during the 20 months of construction should be a priority.

After the two years of construction students will be able to park under the apartments.

If you’d like to have your voice heard about the project, reach out to our elected officials.  They will make the final say in selling the land and finding solutions for our students.  If you'd like to reach out the our city council, I'd recommend emailing:

Thank you!

All the best,

Chuck Linton

that's the way it works though?

The lot under the Eco building was our old HeatSync parking.  The spots came back after it was done.
There's still plenty of parking on Macdonald & 1st st, in the Pepper st lot, and on the other side of Main.

Something else going on prior to that too. All the city employees parking in pepper garage are being moved over to the Hibbert St one the city just bought. That's going to open up Pepper to public parking.

Also, as Luis mentioned this is the same deal the city worked with Eco. In fact, the proposed green lot project is Eco phase 2.

I'm working on a Smart Parking API for the city that'll let us send parking lot capacity status over to the downtownmesa.org website. We're also standing up a mobile app that works with Android Auto and Apple Carplay to direct people to the best open parking lot, depending on where they're headed downtown. Suggestions and ideas in that area are welcome.

It is my opinion that parking for the lab continues to get tougher for patrons and especially for lab volunteers who wish to stay for more than 3 hours inside the windows of parking enforcement operation.

Just a heads up for everyone, on top of everything else we have to deal with already:
https://library.municode.com/az/mesa/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=COOR_TIT10TR_CH3TR_10-3-20MEPA
"

(G)

Reparking Within Three Hundred Feet (300'). If a vehicle has been parked in an area on any street or in any public or private lot or in any public or private garage where parking is limited or restricted to a specified period of time by official signs posted at that location, it is prohibited and a violation of this Section for the said vehicle to be reparked for a period of twenty-four (24) hours within three hundred feet (300') of the location where the said vehicle was first parked. (1771, 2189)

"
The law reads for within 300 feet, 24 whole hours from the time you park officially.
Losing a whole parking lot for 2 years is kind of a big deal for those of us who don't get dropped off, walk, bike, or lightrail our way in, and there are fewer and fewer solutions.
