3D Printers:
Printers doing well, Ultimaker 2 back in operation.
Use PrusaSlicer for Ender 5 printers, use Cura slicer for the Ultimaker 2.
We may install a Raspberry Pi with Octoprint on the Ultimaker 2, but it's not top priority.

More permanent camera solution has to be come up with, and likely mounted on a corner so we get more of the bed and don't end up with silly false positives for The Spaghetti Detective (like cables on the lab tables being detected as spaghetti!)

Extruder drives on the Ender 5's will likely have to be changed to a different design as these do not have good tension control and are shredding filament needlessly. Thinking some sort of dual gear drive would be good.

We're thinking of experimenting with different buildplates so we might be able to get away from using the painters tape. Not sure what solution we're going to use yet, but there are many out there.

Antonio has made a monumental effort to train people to use the printers more efficiently, document materials, temperatures, slicer settings, and speeds, and has done a lot of work to keep tabs on the printers, yay Antonio!.

We are working on a schedule on what tweaks and upgrades we will make to the printers, and we need to know what our budget roughly is for procuring filament/stuff. We intend on doing incremental upgrades that will eventually allow us to print exotic materials such as Carbon Fiber, Nylon, Polycarbonate, Wood PLA, and glow in the dark filament without determent to the hotends. I am considering contacting Microswiss directly to see if we can get a good deal by being a hackerspace. They have an amazing kit for the Ender 5 printers that changes them to a direct drive extruder with a all metal hotend  (and dual gear drive extruder) of their design which would allow us to run hardened steel nozzles of good quality, but I am on the fence about it as the boden tube design is lightweight, has proven itself to be amazingly reliable on the stock parts, and the entire hotend assembly as it stands could be considered a total loss and replaced cheaply whereas the microswiss one could not. One of the hardened microswiss nozzles costs more than the entire stock Ender 5 hotend with nozzle, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, wiring, and PTFE tube assembly.

Perhaps we might build a 3D printer that's only for exotic materials??

So soon my conflict on Thursday nights will be over so I can attend  but did anyone make HYH minutes 12-10-20? Thanks!

I think Jot did record minutes.

Bathrooms were repaired, and the problem was due to someone flushing wipes (DON'T DO THAT).  Board had retrospective on this incident and identified policies to make these sort of repairs quicker in the future.

The proposal to purchase the Air Purification equipment did pass:  5Y 3N 2A

Otherwise, people aren't cleaning up the lab, and are not tracking their usage of the tools (nothing super unexpected there).

Sorry, I wasn't taking notes, primarily because I was having audio problems, and I don't like taking notes.  :)  Here are my new notes from memory.
  • Covid:  We avoided turning this into a highly charged discussion that could go on for hours.  There is an interest in setting a lab policy on masks with strong opinions on certain aspects of it.  The ask was to see if we could reach out to Milton to see if we could use what he had planned for board member votes for voting on lab mask policy.  The current policy was set via HYH back when this all started.  The general HYH requirement is that a proposal be submitted two weeks before the HYH to be considered.  [Jot's opinion:  We still haven't seen a proposal for this so don't expect it to come up for vote in the next HYH.]
  • Videos:  Discussion on the grant we have for equipment.  Raul went over what he has that can be used and we briefly discussed what next steps are.  Agreed that figuring out the content/storyboards/etc was the most important thing.  Milton has put together a proposal in #videos-for-heatsync.  Please review the pinned item.
  • Facilities:  Discussion of the board agreeing to prioritize critical infrastructure problems to get fixed faster.  Examples are:  A/C, plumbing, and roof leaks.  The last of which is particularly relevant because Nate brought up that we still have one in the same place up front that we had before.  Evidenced by the last rain storm.
    • One bathroom is back online after the plumber cleaned out the clorox wipes that I'm sure just miraculously flushed themselves.  Ask is to use common sense and if it isn't TP or human produced, don't flush it.
  • 3D printing:  Brief discussion on station status.
    • Need to consider having people log their work, because things now are occasionally going off the rails because people don't read/follow directions.
    • Also a discussion on limiting people to printing on one printer if they're going to do day+ prints instead of tying up both printers.
  • Proposal on buying air filtration:  Approved.  Discussion on voting and other items with regards to the proposal.

-Jot
