Hello!  I am new here, and I have a question about the current status of your Husqvarna embroidery machine.  Is it useable? And what filetypes can it read (are they .hus, .shv, .vip, or another format)?

I've got a very specific project that I'd like to try out on an embroidery machine, and as a consequence I've figured out a pathway to produce embroidery files using an inkscape addon called InkStitch, but I don't know if InkStitch can make files that match with your machine.
Here is their current list of export possibilities:

Do you know if any of these will work with your machine?  If so, I'd like to come in and learn how to use your machine, and am happy to show people what I've learned about InkStitch in the meantime (although honestly learning from their website might be just as useful for you).

If you want to give it a go, the Husqvarna software is on the same computer as runs the laser cutter.
I know we have an older Viking machine, so your results may vary, I have not been there to actually test it.

Ah, the issue is that I have a specific file that I've built already in InkStitch that I would like to use (and improve, as necessary); the fractal I've built might be very hard to create using the software on the Husqvarna machine!  So, I'm trying to figure out what input file formats it can deal with, to see if I can possibly output my existing stitchpath into a format that works with the machine that's there.  (If not, I may have to find a different machine).

.hus is the file format.  You’ll just need the machine that runs the laser to transfer it onto one of the file cards.  The reader/writer, and the cards, should be with the machine.

The only reason it’s the laser machine, btw, is that it was old enough to actually run it haha.  I think the utility needed windows Xp or something.  If you want to try and get it running on your computer, I believe the CDs I got all the software off of when I set it up is also with the husq machine.

Ryan, thanks for that info! I had tried to find out who had set up the machine and the software a long time ago without success. I may try to get this stuff to work in something more modern than XP now that you've told me potentially where the software is!

Hmm, it seems like .hus is actually a tough format to get to.

In any case, is there a good time to come in to learn about the machine?  I’ve seen a bunch but know very little about embroidery machines.

Cindy,

Hi. I'm the sewing co-champion and have done tons of sewing but know absolutely nothing about embroidery machines. In fact the folks that have already answered your questions know more than I. LOL That said, the books, videos ,and everything you need are tucked away in the sewing station shelves. You are more than welcome to try your hand on the machine. Then, let us all know about its secrets!!

Linda

Cindy, there is some software on the laser computer, as well as what was at one point a CNC design computer, which I can believe can convert your stitch files to .hus.

I ran into exactly this problem originally when this machine was being set up!  It took quite a bit of searching to find software that could reasonably generate .hus files.

Ah. In that case do you happen to remember what stitch file types the laser computer can use ?

No, but it’s a lot of them.
