It's a Christmas Miracle!  Time for the 9th annual 48 hours of HAXMAS!!!!

What is HAXMAS? Our annual tradition of keeping the lab open for at least 48 straight open hours the weekend before Christmas.  It gives people the opportunity to finish up their last minute gifts before Christmas, and it's a lot of fun.

When will it happen this year?
Starting from Friday the 15th at 10:00am until at least Sunday the 17th at 10:00 am.

Some members have already stepped up to help me cover the hours, but we could use more people to fill in the gaps.

Let me know here if you want to cover any of the available time slots.

Also if you're not a card holder, it's a great time to help with co-hosting.

Here's a spreadsheet of what we have so far:

Is there any place where we could promote HAXMAS? It's great it's on the heatsync calendar and it's also cool we have some co-events like Eric's events . . . but I've been there for several years and while *I* get a ton out of doing my own hacking all night we often don't have very many visitors.

Embrie thought it would be fun to have some simple activities for kids to do . . . but I doubt we see many kids there even if we are hosting from 6pm to 6am. And I thought maybe we could use the time to figure out how to make temp "workstations" where we come up with a set of instructions and they could be self guided and run all though HAXMAS (which might be cool for next year since we'd be working on the concept this year . . . but still just an idea).

Hi there!

I wouldn’t mind co hosting.  Do I need to have any knowledge of any of the machines? Also, while co-hosting am I able to use the laser?

I would be interested to co host on 12/15 with Eric from 7-9 pm.

Thanks, Margo.

Hosts need card access, but anyone can co-host!  You'll be able to use the laser if it's available.  Just make sure to keep an eye out for new people walking in, and coordinate with the host or other members to make sure the laser doesn't run unattended.

Very much appreciated.  I've added you to that co-host timeslot on the spreadsheet.

Hey! I have some HAXMAS bad news! I'm not feeling well and I won't be able to take my overnight shift. And obviously I can't just drop off Embrie even though she wanted me to. Can anyone step up and make a HAXMAS miracle?

I took my name off the spreadsheet so you can see where the gaps are:

The only good news is the tree will stay and you are free to give away the dino with santa hat ornaments if there are any left!

Get better, Sheldon.

Little blip in coverage, but HAXMAS is still going today.

Lab is open!

HAXMAS was a success!

We planned at least 48 hours and ended up hosting 55.

Thanks to Eric, LJ, Malak, Mike, Robert, Margo, Nate, and David for hosting and co-hosting.  Was really nice to see so much happening at the lab.

Looking forward to HAXMAS 2024
