I’ve finished the code and documentation for my "Stereo camera appliance with object recognition on an RPi5" project.

I had low expectations going in, but the RPi5 pleasantly surprised me.

If you want to generate a PointCloud2 and detect objects (e.g., people) while keeping full control of the code, this is a solid alternative to OAK-D, HUSKYLENS, and similar devices.

I'd guess this will be very useful where hobby LIDARs are not performing well - outdoors.

Nice project Sergei.

I haven't read through everything yet. How do you synchonise the cameras so they can be used while a robot is in motion?

I figured this thread shouldn't die without an honorable mention of the HUSKYLENS 2. It’s currently selling for under $100—no stereo, but the YOLO performance is amazing.
