What USB micro cord is best so I can cut into one wire to add a rocker on/off switch.

I couldn't find any Mini USB cables with switches; I did find plenty of Micro USB... and I did find this USB extension into which you could plug the Mini USB.

USB Switch Cable, Onvian 2-Pack USB On/Off Switch Cable, USB Power Switch Male to Female Cable for PC, TV, Car, USB Fan, LED Strips, etc

One is as good as another except, of course the cord needs to be the length you need.  Opening up a USB cord and cutting only the red wire is not easy even for people with good vision.  It might be easier to cut the cord in half, strip the outside cover then slices the internal wires.

Great, thanks!  I have two flat USB Cords that I really liked and were great in my first two prototypes.   I hate to cut the cord, I should have ordered more, I got them from China’s version of Amazon. I don’t know if I could find more.

Not sure if this would solve your problem, but one of the most useful USB gadgets I have is a USB hub with a power switch on each port. This lets you reset uP development boards or other USB powered parts independently.

I have had good luck with Dollar Tree cords. The individual conductors have been a reasonable gauge wire with proper color coded insulation. The outer jacket slid off easily. That was pre-shutdown and pre-supply-chain-chaos. YMMV but probably worth a try if you have a store nearby.

I have limited space in the housing.  They want my sensor package as small as possible.  I have been using a flat 90° micro USB cord.  A normal USB cord sticks out 1 1/2” after you plug it in. (No room in the housing box) the 90° flat worked great but you you can’t cut it.

Use "anything" to get your prototype working.  Large USB cords that stick out are fine.   Then after it works, you use a custom PCB.  Today, custom-made PCBs cost under 50 cents each, even if you order only five units.  And being custom, they are any size and shape you want them to be.

Get the functionality to work first using some bunch of wires and plugs, then later refine the physical design to make it 4X smaller.

It works,  this is my fifth iteration.  Now I’m changing the on/off button.
I like the custom PCB Board Idea.  Who does that type work?

Hello,

I admit I quick read the thread and might miss the point a bit..

But how about using some PPPS board like this?

Has software control for power per port, saves extra robot arm.

Other stuff also exists, but not sure of the life cycle.

Doh,

seems some Raspberry and Jetsons support this PPPS out of the box also.
