Hi all,

I’m sure many of you have done this… I want to look into giving voice commands to my robot and having it respond with voice or canned answers.

From projects at Brandeis I seem to remember that literally talking out loud didn’t work great with any of the little boards and whatnot that we can get from Adafruit. We ended up going with Bluetooth headsets.

But that’s old news right? Anyone have some pointers on where to start? Thanks!

I’m going to be taking about that at the next meeting on the 29th.

I have working code for both Windows and Linux.

In a nutshell using a simple Python script, it’s:
  1. Use Whisper voice recognition
  2. Send commands to Arduino over USB serial/ Bluetooth
  3. Arduino executes the commands
  4. Text to speech (TTS) replies.

What hardware other than the arduino do you use — mic, speaker, anything else?

Also I will try to make the 29th assuming it’s zoomed. But if you have a handout or document for that please share it here?

Best,

Is there a robot hand I can put on a 30’ pole to fix things on the roof ( I shouldn’t climb ladders anymore)

I use the computer’s built-in mic and speakers. That’s all. It’s relatively a simple setup.

For speech Recognition and Text to Speech I have been making Android Apps using MIT App inventor 2 a HC-05 Bluetooh modem/module and an Arduino.

This works very well. It uses GOOGLE to do the Recognition. It works great on a phone connection or a Tablet that is connected to WiFi.

Here is a Tutorial on YouTube.

Here is the Github link to the Arduino code.

MIT App Inventor 2 makes creating interfaces and controls for robotics projects easy to do.
