   We're building MockBOTs (fake TurtleBots).

The MockBOT

    And here's a free PDF!

The MockBOT

This is a great introduction to ROS 2 and the path towards building a useful robot (one that can carry a decent payload). Please join us if you are interested in building this robot.

I am working on a MockBot. I have gotten the Roomba, connected it to the Raspberry Pi, installed the Autonomy lab software. When I launch I get this message:
[create_driver-1] [INFO] [1778546182.208567933] [create_driver]: [CREATE] "CREATE_2" selected
[create_driver-1] [INFO] [1778546183.377026489] [create_driver]: [CREATE] Connection established.
[create_driver-1] [INFO] [1778546183.377144285] [create_driver]: [CREATE] Battery level 91.05 %
[create_driver-1] [INFO] [1778546183.408987442] [create_driver]: [CREATE] Ready.
[create_driver-1] [ERROR] [1778546183.511041757] [create_driver]: [CREATE] Unknown mode detected

I plugged in theUSB to  serial cable - it only goes in one way. The Raspberry Pi is powered with an outlet, I am not using the battery for this test. I reset the Roomba multiple times using the Spot/Home buttons. It is powered the the left light is white, the right light is green. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

I will be attending tonight's MockBot meeting to see if I can get some help.

Thanks,

Nola

    Try running "teleop_twist_keyboard."

ros2 run teleop_twist_keyboard teleop_twist_keyboard

Press "i", "j", "l", and/or "," to see if the robot moves.

I get the same error message* when running Autonomy Lab's "create_2.launch" but it works fine!

Here's a discussion of the problem on GitHub:

I echoed the joy topic and it gets information. The robot does not move. It continues to print Unknown mode detected

My very old Create 1 does not accept commands on the serial interface when charging power is connected. It only works when on battery power.

Best Regards,

That's a good point, Sergei. The robot was off the charge base.

We got the robot moving with teleop_twist_keyboard. It turns out the joystick was sending cmd_vel stamped. With some help from Dr. "Bot" Federman, we re-configured the J-stick to work too.

Thanks,
Camp
