A Rare Hawk Flies Free in Briones

After 26 days of care, our juvenile Northern Goshawk patient has been released and is now flying free in Briones Open Space. This raptor’s journey from a window strike to a safe return to the wild was made possible by a community that cares deeply about wildlife.

But this story also reminds us of an ongoing challenge. Window strikes are one of the most common and preventable threats birds face, affecting hundreds of species each year, often right outside our homes. Together, we can change these numbers.

Prevention starts with small changes at home, like:
• Adding bird-safe decals to windows
• Reducing nighttime lighting
• Placing feeders thoughtfully

Thanks, Brian! That was cool seeing how large it really is. (I still haven’t seen one in the world yet.)

Nice to see Teresa in this too. And I wouldn’t have guessed that released hawks can get a pedicure on the way out.

But very cool! Released Dec 18! Who knows where they are now. Would have been cool to have a telemetry and/or have a group go find it.
