Election day is tomorrow. Here's one more thing to think about before you
vote.
First, what has it meant in the past for America to
be great?
In other words, it meant we didn't just talk about doing great things, we actually did them.
Second, I believe COVID-19 death counts reported by disinterested sources like Wikipedia are accurately recorded for various countries all over the world. Why wouldn't they be? If anything, those numbers are probably low since it's very likely that many more deaths in the US and elsewhere were actually due to the pandemic - yet were misclassified as something else (see https://tinyurl.com/uldogpt , https://tinyurl.com/tgjzoqq , https://tinyurl.com/vq3hrly , https://tinyurl.com/ybghv6mm , https://tinyurl.com/yb287y8r , https://tinyurl.com/yy2ohg39 ). You can get a good feel for this by comparing death counts in 2020 to previous years and see there are far more deaths this year (for any reason).
I've personally been tracking daily US COVID-19 death counts (weekly most recently) since 4/12/2020 (see attachment).
On January 20, 2020 the first COVID-19 case was reported in the US. On the very same day the first COVID-19 case was reported in South Korea.
Early in the pandemic, Europe was hammered by COVID-19. At first, Britain, France, Germany, Italy & Spain all had many more COVID-19 deaths than the US. Yet as time went by all of these countries - except Spain - proved to be better - some significantly better - than the US at controlling the pandemic.
Why didn't America clearly and obviously demonstrate greater competence controlling the pandemic than Britain, France, Germany and Italy?
Why hasn't America clearly and obviously demonstrated greater competence controlling the pandemic than Canada?
All countries faring worse than the US, with the exception of Belgium and Spain are 2nd or 3rd world countries like Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Mexico - with Mexico being only slightly worse than the US ( see https://tinyurl.com/yy3ogogk ).
Why hasn't America clearly and obviously demonstrated greater competence controlling the pandemic than 2nd or 3rd world countries like the Czech Republic, Guatemala or South Africa
( again see https://tinyurl.com/yy3ogogk )?As stated previously, South Korea had its first COVID-19 case on the same day as the US, yet as of today South Korea has had only 468 COVID-19 deaths. If South Korea had exactly the same population as the US, their COVID-19 death count would be 3,006. That's 3,006 SK dead compared to 234,567 US dead.
In other words, adjusting for population size, the US has 78 times as many COVID-19 deaths as South Korea! Why?
There is simply no way to explain this away - other than to say we have failed miserably - unlike almost any other major country on earth.
Now let's think like we are fighting the pandemic as a "war" since others have talked about it that way recently. If so, it's a war we are losing in a big way. Compare this "war" to wars we have fought in the past - and won (mostly).
More Americans have died from this pandemic than Americans who died in WW1 (116,516).
It is very likely that more Americans will die from this pandemic than Americans who died in WW2 (405,399).
In fact, COVID-19 deaths in the US have now far surpassed the accumulation of American war deaths throughout our entire history (not including the top 3):
Total: 1,354,664 (US War Dead - All Time)
Civil: -655,000
WW1: -116,516
WW2: -405,399
========
177,749COVID: 234,567
So wake up America and ask yourselves: What does it mean to be great again? Great at what?
Perhaps we are great at pretending we are better than everyone else. Better at what?
Is this really the best we can be?
