Hi,
I've been accessing the CPRS Tab by Tab training via
https://www.train.org . Flash related courses are slated to be taken
down due to Flash being taken off of support.

This course appears to use Flash, so has it been saved
somewhere else by anyone in the community ?

Thank-you !

I have a copy. I made a FOIA request for the training many years ago and
received 27 DVDs. I have been told that there are alternative players for
FLASH but I really don't know about it. Hopefully, someone on this list does.
Some of the DVD content was organized and posted by OSEHRA on an education
portion of their site and Sam Habiel, Anthony Fischetti and I have tried to
put that site up again as much as possible. Flash content is not among the
courses.

https://education.worldvista.org

I think that all of the 27 DVDs of content is posted here, 114G of it, but
there may be more in another directory.
https://opensourcevista.net/NancysVistAServer/VEHU-FOIA-2017-Request

As you can see from the listing, it is not obvious what those videos are. I
finally got a spreadsheet from the VA that helped, and Anthony Fischetti, when
working for OSEHRA as an Intern, put in a tremendous amount of work into
trying to pull the gems out of it for posting on the education site they
hosted, and we have tried to recreate as much as possible.

CPRS Tab by Tab is here and I hope someone will find a way to view it. I was
able to stream it somehow from this site in the past with a browser, as I
recall, but I have since tried to block streaming and tried to force downloads
to help control the use of my bandwidth. If you or anyone else can figure out
how to play it on your machine, please tell me.

https://opensourcevista.net/NancysVistAServer/WebCourses%204_7/

I also had made a FOIA request many years earlier for the education material
which included some old FLASH for creating templates, etc. The whole story
behind that request is an amazing one I will not bore you with but one disk
was corrupted and I was never able to get that one replaced but then the VA
put all of it up on https://MyVeHUCampus.com. I made a FOIA request for that
material which is what was on that 27 DVDs but I don't think it was all of it.
I don't think it had the FLASH courses.

I wanted all of that material to be posted on the VHA training site once they
took down http://MyVeHUCampus.com but that did not happen. CPRS Tab by Tab
was something I pushed hard for and they did do that. For a while, it was the
only training posted before they opened this VHA Train site, and I am very
grateful they gave us access to it. There is a lot of very good non-VistA
clinical material on it and they are constantly putting up new courses. I
have signed up to get notices about the training and I get a new one almost
every day.

It is interesting that there were offers made to the VA to rehost MyVeHUCampus
at a far reduced cost but for reasons that were not clear to me, it was
refused. Probably something to do with the federal procurement regulations.

PS, I am working on getting the material they take down by FOIA request, and
if I get it, you can be sure I will post it where anyone who wants it can get
it.

All,
Thank-you Nancy for your work in preserving this documentation.
The train.org site also states that all major browsers will stop loading
flash content. I'm uncertain of all the workarounds available to mitigate this,
(disabling browser updates might be one, but ill advised).

I'm currently looking at "Ruffle", https://ruffle.rs:
"Ruffle is a Flash Player emulator written in Rust.
Ruffle runs natively on all modern operating systems as a standalone application,
and on all modern browsers through the use of WebAssembly. "

I will try and report back if I have any success in launching this course with Ruffle.

All,
Unfortunately, I wasn't successful in using "Ruffle" within the browser
to launch the online course CPRS Tab by Tab. The display flickered, but wouldn't progress.

I tried the latest nightly build and Firefox, Chrome, and Edge.

Brainstorming....so no apologies in advance for really dumb ideas:

How about setting up a Docker instance that only has these Flash courses in it (or the whole training library if there's energy to to do this) plus a version of a browser that is never upgraded to disable Flash and nothing else that isn't needed? Kind of a nuclear option but should work until there's a better option????

Have you looked at VLC media player shows support for Flash files

MPEG (ES,PS,TS,PVA,MP3), AVI, ASF / WMV / WMA, MP4 / MOV / 3GP, OGG / OGM / Annodex, Matroska (MKV), Real, WAV (including DTS), Raw Audio: DTS, AAC, AC3/A52, Raw DV, FLAC, FLV (Flash), MXF, Nut, Standard MIDI / SMF, Creative™ Voice.

That would be great if it works because VLC works on Windows, Linux and probably a MAC as well!

For that kind of effort, we can just make a new training!

I am attempting a relatively low-tech, brute force method on converting the CPRS Tab by Tab.
I am playing through the lessons, capturing them using screen recording software to MP4 files.
Once complete, with Nancy's help, my plan is to upload them to worldvista's storehouse.

A lesson here IMHO, if we want products to have a chance at longevity, avoid
proprietary technologies like the plague !

Thank you, Vernon!

Since it is Christmas and the weekend and all, I have made no progress in getting a contact person for making a request for the FLASH content. I know from experience if you want some help from the FOIA office, you need to help them. So I will be patient and hope something happens on Monday.
