Welcome!

As someone slightly less of a newbie, all I can tell you is to brace yourself, because documentation-wise, Harbour is nightmarish. Your best bet is to look for the samples installed with Harbour and try to understand the code, because most of the people who wrote those samples seemed to believe they'd get cancer if they commented their work.

As you check the samples, be mindful of the IDE used for each. There are two different IDE's (I've no clue which one's better, but I kinda recall that not every windows-related function works with both of them, so that's one more thing that'll drive you a bit nuts).

One IDE is called MiniGUI and the other's HMG (very confusing, because it seems to stand for "Harbour Mini Gui," but they're two separate programs). I started using HMG and stuck to that. Their support forum is http://hmgforum.com/.

The people in this forum are very helpful, so just ask away.

Alex

By downloading the minigui package from (https://www.hmgextended.org/), you will have access to the doc folder where you have the very detailed manuals; however writing these codes manually can be tedious; so the use of an IDE is very welcome, in the minigui package itself you can choose the version .\HMG-IDE created by Roberto Lopes or another .\IDE created by (Walter) that I believe to be the most used by users of minigui extend;
Alternatively you can still use (https://github.com/ivanilmarcelino/designer), which is also free to use; anyway you have a lot of material to choose and study.

Hello Bernard.

I too recently discovered Harbour and found a discouraging reality: the lack of unified and more or less up-to-date, comprehensive documentation for newcomers. Luckily I found people in this group who immediately offered to channel my questions and answer other questions.

Perhaps I can help you since, as we are more or less in a similar situation but, in my case, I have done enough research so that, initially, I have been able to situate myself with a more or less correct approach, here I am whenever you need it. Feel free to write to me in particular if you need to.

Best regards and very welcome.

Hi

I would add also "visual xharbour" from www.xharbour.com (not free), but it seems now as a dead/abandoned project.
Should be nice to see it run under harbour instead, but not available - unfortunately.
