ADS "Advantage data Server" - LetoDBF

Hello everyone,

I have a question: do you think it’s advisable to use ADS (“Advantage Data Server”)? Advantage Data Server (ADS) was officially discontinued, with its main support ending on December 31, 2022, leaving version 12.0 as the last stable release. Or would it be better to use LetoDBf instead?

I have some experience with ADS and can say that it works correctly. I also think it is dangerous to work with a product that has been officially discontinued. I have been using Letodb (not LetoDBF) for several years and I think it works ok. You should not expect miracles, the processing is slightly faster compared to working over the network, but there is still significant traffic over the network.

 

The best solution in my opinion is remote work via some variant of remote desktop software. Maximum speed and security.

I'm not worried about ADS being discontinued. Most of my clients still use version 10.1, and recently a client acquired a server with Windows Server 2025. I didn't have any problems with the installation.
I use ADS with ADT tables and a data dictionary with several simultaneous internet connections. We can merge SQL (Static) and ISAM (Dynamic) RDD commands at the same time. This creates a huge advantage compared to multiple databases.
