Hi -
Does anyone know of a 2 or 3 octave handbell arrangement of “The Peace Carol” by Bob Beers?  It was made famous by John Denver and the Muppets.
Thanks.
Tom

Tom,

I was not able to find any arrangement, but I sure would love to be the first handbell composer/arranger to arrange this amazing piece! It's so simple, yet beautiful.

The "problem" is obtaining permission to arrange this piece and having the permission to do so in time for when you'd need it. There are so many choral arrangements, I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

Thanks for bringing this marvelous song to our attention! I want to check that entire Christmas special out now.

All the best,
Derek Hakes

Derek, I adore all of the music from this special, and have been dreaming of finding an arrangement of When the River Meets the Sea, in case you are inspired…

I spent half the night just listening and relistening to this wonderful album, and was particularly struck by three pieces: "The Peace Carol," "When the River Meets the Sea," and "Noel: Christmas Eve, 1913." I've already applied for licensing and permission to arrange for "The Peace Carol." I'm going to do the same for the middle and latter pieces and create a triptych. I'm thinking of a 2 to 3 octave version and a compatible 3 to 5 octave version, with optional solo or choral voices -- assuming permission is granted.

All the best,
Derek Hakes

That's great. And I'm so glad you are thinking of the 2-3 octave version as lately we've not been able to consider anything else (though I'm buying the 3-5 version just in case we get more ringers).

Derek,
Thanks so much for being willing to make this arrangement.  Our music director played The Peace Carol yesterday as a postlude and we talked about the simple yet powerful tune and how there must be a handbell arrangement, thus my original email.  Now there will be an arrangement !!
Thanks again.  I will certainly get copies when it is ready.
Tom
