Hope someone can help me SOON!!
I am writing an arrangement with the "swing feel" and need to know how to easily write a TRIPLET with a quarter note with an eighth note.....not 3 eighth notes.
I am on a MAC with Finale.

THANKS

Linda,

Your best bet is going to be to start writing an 8th note triplet (turn on the triplet tool and input an 8th note), then as soon as the triplet brace/number appears, go back and change the 8th you just put in to a quarter.  Finale will still consider it an "eighth-note triplet" even though two of the eighths are now your quarter note.

I think you could also put in a quarter note, go to the triplet tool, double click on your quarter note, and tell Finale you want to put 3 8th notes in the space of 2 8th notes.  That should accomplish the same thing.

(And I hope I'm remembering correctly — I've jumped to Dorico so some of my Finale knowledge is getting fuzzy ...  )

Good luck with it!

I wish I knew what the equivalent key stroke would be on the Mac but on my PC using speedy entry I push control 3 and then it’s ready for the input of a Triplet figure - you can start with a quarter (pushing 5) and then followed by an eighth (pushing 4). This is also the best way to input a triplet with any combination of notes. I love the keyboard shortcuts.

Hello,

Click in the measure with the quick entry tool. Hit “Option 3” then hit 3 three times or 4 three times or what ever the note value you want, 3 times. Then go back into the measure and delete the middle note, then go to the first note and make it a quarter note (or what ever figure you want)v thus completing the triplet.

I’m sure you probably already know this part so far!

Then highlight that figure and drag it to the second beat. Highlight beats one and two and drag those to beats 3 & 4 (assuming you're in 4).

Copy that measure, rinse, repeat.

Thomas- I have gotten "close" to what you suggested. However, sometimes it works and other times not....then I can't figure out what I did right!!
Thanks- Linda
