Hi all. As most, if not all of you know, I'm getting out of the beekeeping hobby. As a result I'm getting rid of my bee equipment.

To start I'd like to give my DIY Bee Vac to the Society if you want it. It's ready to go if anyone wants to pick it up or I can drop it off if that works too.

I'm happy to give it up for free but if the Society would like to give me $50.00 to offset the cost of a replacement battery I'd be happier.

Again, I wouldn't complain if you just want it for free.

It's based on an Ryobi 18V cordless leaf blower, comes with a new charger and one used 18V battery. I might even still have the leaf blower's removable nozzle hiding somewhere in my garage. A number of parts I've 3D printed and I still have the files so if any of those parts break, I can probably replace them.

If someone wants to take possession, please let me know when/where and we can make this happen.

Marcel

Thanks, Marcel!

I was away for 2 weeks and did not reply to your earlier posts.

I, for one, am fully in support of the Society having the bee vac to (listed in ranked order): 1) collect new hives for the Society itself, 2) to run impromptu workshops on swarm collection and 3) to loan out to Society members.

I made my own bee vac a few years ago and they really are great tools in general.  Mine, however, was built around a regular Shopvac and needed to be plugged in and was therefore only good in certain locations.  Unfortunately my Shopvac gave up the ghost over the winter and the bee vac is currently inoperable.  I love the idea of building it around a cordless leaf blower.   I am guessing that it still has plenty of power since a major step in building one around a Shopvac is bleeding off the excess suction.

Does the Society have funds to compensate Marcel?

Hello
I second that Roger C. A bee vac is a great idea. Jim and I actually used Marcel’s bee vac and it is amazing!
I agree that we can pay him for it and we could pay him $100.00 from what I saw, it is well worth it!
Thank you
Lorraine

Thanks, Marcel! The society has the funds to purchase this at $50, or $100.

A couple of questions:
  • Who would like to store it?
  • Should this go on the lending spreadsheet, with the extractors?
Best,
Nicole

Thanks for replying, Nicole.

Not sure where it can go, but it is probably fairly small, so I it could go in a corner of a garage/shed and not take up nearly as much room as an extractor or even empty hive boxes.  I could store it but am open to other possibilities.

I do agree that it should go onto a lending spreadsheet.  Otherwise it is bound to go missing.  I guess that it is Marcel’s call on price.

I’d be thrilled with $100. Thank you so much.

I will also remain available to help with tech support so to speak. I can reprint the 3D parts if any more break and I can help with the charger and battery if they should need it.

Hi All,

Just looping back to this discussion about the bee vac. Marcel, can you send me your address so that I can send the cheque. Roger, if you can store that's great.

Cheers,
Nicole

I come into town on Tuesdays and Thursdays and could pick it up on one of those days. If that is okay with you Marcel.

I can also make an additional page to the extractor sign up spreadsheet, so that we have all the information on equipment location in one place.

That’ll work for me. I have an appointment on Thursday but as long as I know which day you’re coming, I can leave it out for you to pick up. I can bag it all up and leave it on my front steps for example.

Great.  Let’s try to touch base again, maybe on Monday night, so that I can plan the next day.
