Hello all. I wonder if anyone knows something about Nuovo Falcone Fork refurbishment? The forks on my NF are very soft. I have read somewhere that this is not uncommon. It does ride very well but in slow moving traffic pulling the front brake causes the front end to dive into the tarmac, which is quite alarming. I have not dropped the forks out yet but I have searched for obvious things like fork springs, which do seem to be available from German and Italian suppliers. I am not confident about being able to source all the other bits I might need and have considered putting modern forks on the bike so I can actually ride it. Can anyone advise?
Kind regards
Dean

Do you have the correct amount of oil in the fork and of what viscosity?

Someone else will come forward I’m sure but I thought I recalled these forks used grease, not oil. On Chris’ Falcone there is a thin layer of grease that forms on the sliders. Other than that springs can certainly be getting weak ove the past 70 years or so.

The design and operation of Guzzi NF forks are not very much like most other ttelescopic forks. Each leg contains a small amount of oil so it is important to ensure that oil is present in the prescribed amount (0.16 litre/leg).The first thing to do is drain each leg. Let it drain overnight, then top it up. It uses a heavy weight anti-wear hydraulic oil AW ISO 32 or equivalent. If a lighter grade motorcycle fork oil is used it will have an adverse effect on handling, and that might be your problem.

The NF fork is unlike the old Falcone/Airone and is also unlike most other telescopic forks, particularly in the design of the hydraulic dampers.

Silly me. I don’t know why but I aways seem to miss a key detail. Gotta slow down!

My 1975 Nuovo forks are a little soft too and I don't use any oil. My springs are coated with some grease to slow down any rusting. Maybe try adding a spacer to put some preload on them. And ride on ..........

I also found out that the big fork tube nut is the same thread as an Eldo. Different shape but same thread size. When I took my forks apart when I got my bike one of the nuts had been cross threaded and the nut thread were ruined so I had to replace it. And my missing side stand was also the same part number as an Eldo.
