The chain should be checked after the first 500 km and periodically thereafter.
To check, make sure that the chain is slightly taut; this can be checked using a screwdriver as shown in fig. 14. (translation note, I see no screwdriver, only fingers, but the locknut and screw, 1&2 are there.)
The adjustment is carried out with a cold engine, with the engine valves closed (piston at top dead center) and in the following way: loosen the locknut (1) then act on the screw (2) remembering that to tighten the chain you need to screw and to loosen the chain you need to unscrew the screw. Once the adjustment has been carried out, tighten the locknut again.
NB If, upon inspection, the chain is found to be loose, it is necessary, in addition to the normal adjustment of this, to proceed with checking the timing of the distribution.
