Does anyone know what is the correct tension to adjust the cam driving chain to on a Moto Guzzi 175 Lodola Sport

The ‘simple’ instruction book extract says slightly taut!!

The manuale per le operazioni says 2mm.

AND Bryan Pecks MGCGB article says 15mm of movement of the chain

A big difference between all these

I would go with 2mm in the tightest spot and with the weight of the rider. Too much tension is hard on the chain, sprockets and bearings. As long as it is not thrashing around and rubbing on things, it will be OK. If it is a new chain and spockets, check it after the first 50 miles.
Ciao, Alan in Roberts Creek

Alan it’s the cam drive chain in the engine. The Lodola 175 is an OHC motor

Sorry about that. I did not see the word cam. I have no experience with the cam drive on the Lodola. From general experience, too tight is more problematic than too loose unless the chain is thrashing about and hitting the castings. Is there a cam chin tensioner?

Even so 2 mm:  total
ie 1 mm play on either side of neutral or slack sounds pretty reasonable to me.

This from the Lodola 175 user manual at rpw.it

Then go to, Registrazione della catena per la distribuzione on page 33, you can find the drawing, (Fig. 14) on Page 35

The translation via Google Translate
Timing Chain Adjustment
(See fig. 14)
The chain should be checked after the first 500 km and periodically thereafter.
To check, make sure that the chain is slightly taut; this can be checked using a screwdriver as shown in fig. 14. (translation note, I see no screwdriver, only fingers, but the locknut and screw, 1&2 are there.)
The adjustment is carried out with a cold engine, with the engine valves closed (piston at top dead center) and in the following way: loosen the locknut (1) then act on the screw (2) remembering that to tighten the chain you need to screw and to loosen the chain you need to unscrew the screw. Once the adjustment has been carried out, tighten the locknut again.
NB If, upon inspection, the chain is found to be loose, it is necessary, in addition to the normal adjustment of this, to proceed with checking the timing of the distribution.
The chain should be checked after the first 500 km and periodically thereafter.
