After foolishly selling my lovely GTV, I'm on the lookout for a pre-war 500. Prefer hand gear-change but it's not a deal breaker. As long as it has a good engine/gearbox, looks are not too important. I'm in the UK, willing to travel to Europe if need be. Thanks.

Unfortunately the character who bought it turned out to be an 18 carat wan**r. He knows he has a peach and I'm pretty sure wouldn't let it go at any price.

The flip side to that is if a guy can afford to hang on to his bike, he won’t sell it now but wait for prices to recover a little.

might even be worth a trip to the Mostra Scanbio at Imola, especially if you are the east side of the pond. I have a couple of friends who got smokin' deals on old 'slicers at Imola. Even with the shipping costs to the west coast of Canuckistan the costs worked out well.

Will they ever recover? It seems that many of us who appreciate this sort of thing are starting to fall off the perch or we already have an old bike (or more).and the market is reflecting that condition.
The prices for pre-war cars have fallen off the cliff and old motorcycles are next in line. I did not buy my 'slicers for investment purposes, I bought them to ride and enjoy.

Hard to say on recovery. Like you, I bought bikes I wanted and wanted to ride. It’s important to get younger guys interested. Lower prices will help that but overall gearhead activities have taken a blow. One thing for sure but I don’t know if it’s good or bad is that the cost of restoration isn’t going down.

I hadn't realised the Mostra Scampi is in about 3 weeks time! I wonder if I can get the logistics in place in time?🤔
I see the same bikes advertised in Italy all the time at prices that are way off, these days. UK prices seem to have tumbled far more than European ones. I am not looking for investments; I dread to think what I've 'lost' on my Indian, bought 3 years ago!) but at the same time, one has to be realistic. Prices will never recover, as someone else said, we're dropping off the perch ,the next generation aren't interested.
