Looks like the GT16 did not make its reserve. $27,250 is way beyond my budget but it's nice to know that these old 'slicers are increasing in value. It was not that long ago that you couldn't give them away.

I find it rather good news that it didn't reach reserve and I believe that making old motorcycles the preserve of rich and generally old men to be an extremely bad thing. They need to be affordable  so that they're likely to fall into the hands of motorcyclists, not collectors or the dreaded speculator.
They're all for riding and getting dirty as often as possible.

I would just say the seller has an unrealistic reserve in mind.

Hi All,
At Stafford show pre pandemic there were some early guzzies in the auction,
Also a lone misdescribed mis dated GTW
I was there to bid on the GTW.
The earlier bikes were up first, the bidding was frantic from two groups of Europan bidders,  I thought I didn't have a hope to win the GTW!!!
I was sat front row centre, so could not easily see the other bidders....
As the GTW was wheeled in the auctioneer was looking  more or less over my head to the same groups as before, one of the assistants needed to get his attention to see that i was bidding!! I had worked out my max bid in advance because i had to take into account fees currency conversion and 5%VAT as the bikes had been consigned from outside the EU.
I held my bid card up bidding away only to be told the bid was mine!!!!!
I was in total shock and surprise as the Guzzi was knocked down to me at a lot less than I was prepared to spend!!!
Some days the sun just shines on me!!!!

The market has spoken. As we all know, big profits (or even small profits) are very rare in the vintage motorcycle game. The reality is that you could not buy a survivor Guzzi single and restore it to the level of the BaT GT16 for less than $30k, even if you bought the bike at less than market value  and did most of the work yourself. The cost of painting, plating, machine shop services, replacement parts and shipping have become frightening.
I was going to put some new tires on my Astore and discovered that the cost of the tires, tubes and rim bands was going to be over $600 CDN! I could have bought some Asian knock-offs for about half that price, but they are pretty much useless if you plan to ride on them. If I took the bike to a shop for the tire installation along with the inevitable need for service to the brakes and wheel bearings, that would probably add another $400 to the bill.
When you think about the brand new motorcycle that you could buy for $30k, you wonder why we mess about with these old bangers. But then you take a ride on your well sorted 'slicer and all that doubt is dissipated.

I agree!
When it’s more about making money then the bike itself it takes all the fun out of it for me
and prevents a new generation from continuing on in our beloved hobby.

To many it’s all about the flip. $$$$$

Sprint has finally arrived!

Enjoy,

Mac
