Can anyone recommend a NGK spark plug for my 1958 Cardellino?

I got the motor back together and installed today, new piston / rings, bearings, gaskets and it has a good spark.

Another question, what type of crank case oil is recommended and how much?

I poured about 3/4 of a 13/30 litre into the fill spout and kicked it over several times, then I noticed oil dripping out from the output shaft behind the drive sprocket. I drained about a 1/4 of a litre out and that seems to have stopped the drip.

Is there no other means of sealing the output shaft other than the bush with the oil groove that slides over the outputs shaft?

Thanks

Jim

Hi, I use an NGK B6HS spark plug with a 0.6mm gap in my Cardellino 73. There is an engine oil level plug directly below the clutch lever pivot. Fill until oil comes out of level plug hole. The correct oil is Shell X-100 SAE 40.
Hope this helps,
Cheers Phil

FYI,

NGK has been discontinuing non-resistor spark plugs. Not sure if it has reached throughout the entire range yet but be aware if you go plug shopping.

Also many probably already know but you should beware NGK spark plugs sold on Ebay and other non-traditional outlets. There are a lot of counterfeit plugs being sold and they are creating problems.

Seams crazy to counterfeit 30 year old spark plugs. I’ve bought all my plugs on eBay for the last 15 years and have never had a problem but I will keep that in mind if I need any more.

Thanks
Mac

I agree Mac,
You’re only looking at a couple dollar product too. I haven’t seen one but have heard many guys report that they bought some.

Hi There from Cork,
 Two years ago
I had to bin 3 boxes of NGK plugs, bought from a well established distributor .
Either faulty out of the box or with a lifespan of a couple of days.
All Champions or Denso by me now.

My Guzzino has a crazy habit. It only used to fire up on an ancient Marelli plug it came with. Hated NGK's even if swapped straight out of my Ducati 450 which was running well. When I use it again I will also try NGK iridium because the thinner electrodes means more volts gather together at the points. The Green Spark Plug Co. in the UK is great and stocks NOS old spark plugs in many makes and grades.

You are not alone Andrew.

My 1938 GTC/L was a real bitch to start on NGK and I found an old (probably at least 50 years old) pink Marelli CW225B plug in my spares box.
I gave it a quick clean and put that in and it starts almost first kick now every time.

Current pink Marelli number is CW7L (B6ES equiv) or CW8L (B7ES equiv).

Cheers

Isn’t it weird.  No one can explain it. Thanks for the plug references. I think I’ll try and find another Marelli from the Green company.

if you can't CW7L then you may be able to find CW7LP ..  Tricky  to find in pink.  I have used those with good results.
My Falcones run OK on those as well as NGK.
It is the pre-war race engines that are fussy.

Somewhere on a bike forum is a set of photos of one of the Chinese factories turning out fake NGK plugs. It is horrendous; The workers are plainly little more than slaves, the state of the building and equipment would not have passed standards at the beginning of the industrial revolution and H&S non-existent.
