gRPC does not have a Discord but there are several other ways to engage with the community aside from the mailing list. These are linked on the website at https://grpc.io/community/. For chat, we use Gitter - https://gitter.im/grpc/grpc

in this "gitter" people show up in 12h interval, we really need a gRPC discord, it's the fastest and better way to communicate, we don't  need to be this archaic way.
makes no sense, all the "community" ways to communicate works like letter, when u say something and need to wait 12h to people to answer, and when answer they normally do not help at all, and u need to re-explain what u trying to do, please just create a Discord, would be faster, people will engage more, probably will help a lot of people

PLEASE PLEASE make a discord. or for u "google" guys do a zoom idk, i can't belive after 7y of gRPC u guys still working like this, shame, wtf

Personally, I do NOT want to see a discord.

While I agree that some means of talking specifically about parts of gRPC (languages, etc) would be a good candidate for channels—many of those conversations are talked about, but in other slack workspaces (CNCF and gophers both have slack channels dedicated to gRPC). Centralizing that into a single gRPC server/workspace would make it easy to talk about gRPC, but gRPC isn’t the only conversation happening. It’s “how do I use gRPC with x or y”.

I realize you may be frustrated, but you haven’t really given a reason why. You’re choosing to berate the team here because they don’t do something the way you want. Please take a moment and tell WHY something would help? Is it enough to identify where we have slack channels or “unofficial” communities?

Beside that fact, that the OP should learn a little about Netiquette, I would like to stress, that I personally like that format.
Yes – the format it is quite old, but mail is THE standard that survived nearly 40 years. And mail is the base that everyone has.
(I do not know Discord, but every service that I know, requires an email to register).

Additionally I can search and retrieve messages from my mail account and/or google groups that are more than 20 years old. This is a very valuable knowledge archive.

Please show me any other messaging system that can do that.

 I appreciate that I get support here for free. In return, I'll bring some patience with me.

 The only thing that I miss, is a differentiation between programming languages.

Thanks

to be real, you guys sound like old people specially Tobias, man we live in the Live time, Streams and ETC, we want access to people in real time, stop saying "ooh i like this radio thing, i don't think people would like this screen shit like tv", just stop try to justfy "why" you like and old and slow type of communication, and theodor, "who" literally "who" is slack when we talking about the average developer, slack is for companies, for business no normal person use slack until he got a job when is forced to, discord is the biggest player to create servers where the real "community" can speak and interact with each other in real time, remember u guys probably are in your 40th, u guys want to be the "in my  time", no normal person want this, look all the "community" places that grpc.io suggest in their site, all this ones have 1 message every 12h, this looks normal to you guys? this look reasonably? idk wtf u guys thinking about, but have no excuses to stay like it's today and to be serious, we sometimes need to act the opposite of the Netiquette to people understand how messed up the thing their are doing, just to knowledge the Jurassic guys, Google has 1 server to employees on discord... so stop bullshiting about  how "perfect" it's to live in 90's sending emails to ask questions when we have things like chat-gpt and real-time solutions, don't try to justify send things in 126kbs when we can talk in GBs... u guys are just showing how old spirit and IBM workers u are.
I can't fucking believe i had to justify this to u, that probably have 1000x more internet experience then me

and just to be clear, no one cares what u "want to see" brother, we want what is needed, and waht is needed is REAL-TIME communication, stop acting like "when i have to study PIC in magazines" no one really care how difficult was in you time man, we do not need this 90's email style, look all the chat's here, most of then have no answers, people work their ass off to make things work, to learn what shit they need to do, and to be clear, i know all thing we have to know probably have some messy documentation out there. But wake-up little princess world is not more like in 80's people now want's to talk, want to feel listen, want to have others to communicate. I'm not mad, with u Jurassic guys, i just not believe u guys are saying things that look like  "yeeh i think we should stay using letters, this whats-app things are bullshit, seriously BIGGEST TECH COMPANY IN THE WORLD, "tech" remember that word next time u try to justify stay using old shit, u can like it, u can still using it, but do not try to say " I do NOT want to see" if u do not, stay in this email shit, but do not try to say it would not be good, if u are old and Jurassic

Before you invariably get blocked, let's clear a few things up.

1. I don't like the Google Groups either. But it's where the developers and maintainers are, so I come and check on it.
2. On "slack is for companies"--implying that the "average developer" won't join a slack channel? That's odd, considering I interface with many "average developers" across slack channels, so I somehow doubt that THE average developer uses Discord and nothing else.
3. I am 40--and I can't stand when people say "that's how we've always done it". And for the record, no one has said that in this thread.
4. Netiquette is treating people fairly--your ends don't justify the means.
5. There is real-time communication available--it's just not what YOU want.

If you really want to push the need for change, then you wouldn't have a problem explaining why. You offered a possible reason (most average developers use it), and I alone have evidence to the contrary. You said that it's not fast enough--what is the average response time in this group? You think gitter doesn't have a fast enough response time?--this one is probably actionable IF the data showed it was true.

If you really want to prove your point, then SHOW why.

LOOK every channel, Gitter have 1 message for day, reddit have 1 message in 72h. man all channels are dead, this "email group" are dead too, look the answers, look the questions, idk how show u MORE why, brother every "community channel" are dead, and you do know WHY??? because they try to achieve multiple channels that they think was "cool" in 2017 and FAIL in each and every one, so if u can't see that i can't do nothing, but anyone how is new to gRPC see this trash channels and think "well i think i'll need to figure out by my self" or better "well i'll use normal HTTP because like Google let this shit gRPC to die" idk what u want more, look how trash and shitty this channels are, they don't help a thing, they do not server their propose. if u with all this experience can't see idk what could i do

A lack of messages could mean that there isn't much to say. I think everyone in this group would like for gRPC to be talked about more--but creating another chat platform server will just spread out resources further.

However I'll meet you halfway--I created an unofficial gRPC community server (I'm not official on the project--just a contributer/avid user). Let's advertise and fill it with community members that can help each other--whether or not it gets shut down by the admins or no maintainers join. If it's successful--we can actually turn it into a community and if it doesn't, then it'll get lost in the mix of every other chat medium out there.

I'll work on adding some nominal channels. Invite link is https://discord.gg/xjUsnYF3 (7-days, 50-use link)

Bring those "average developers" with questions and let's see how it does.

For everyone else--I do think there's some merit in calling out a few alternative/unofficial places where gRPC users convene to discuss and help each other. All of the below have recent messages about gRPC, and this isn't an exhaustive list. I could either see adding it to grpc.io or on https://github.com/grpc-ecosystem/awesome-grpc

* gRPC Subreddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/grpc/ (2,800 members in subreddit)
* dev.tohttps://dev.to/t/grpc - (194 posts, no idea on members)

* CNCF Slack - cloud-native.slack.com - #grpc (600 members in channel)
