I cannot find any detailed user guide for selecting an application and disabling notifications from it.  Any ideas?

Launch Growl’s preferences, go to “Applications”. Select the one you don’t wish to receive notifications from and hit "⌘ - ←” (or simply “←”, I don’t remember), then “OK” in the action confirmation pull-down.

How do I see the applications to select from?  All the ones in  the Growl categories do not include Adobe.

What do you select from? If you go to "Growl-Preferences-Applications" do you see smth like that? To simply disable see the topmost pic, to remove - the bottom-most one. Also,  read the official Adobe article at https://ishort.ink/D1UP
