Smudging, distorting and erasing of history is the project here.

Desecration of iconic heritage structures, in the name of "beautification" or whatever, is what the project is about.

That, in turn, is a part of an even larger project of anointing the Founding Emperor of the "New India" - stripped of all vestiges of substantive democracy and pluralism, installed over the ruins of the Old India - under demolition, which had come into being as the successful culmination of over half a century long epic freedom struggle to overthrow oppressive and exploitative colonial rule, being informed with ideals of liberation and egalitarianism, rather ironically, via the brush with that alien rule.
