The Emperor of Lies contradicts the Shah of Lies, at a public event, meant for something else.
It's, however, no "official" pronouncement proper.
Nor does the Prime Minister, in fact, tell that there'd be no NRC.

Btw, does anyone recall the Shah of Lies publicly vowing to rid the country of "termites", via the NRC, in the run-up to the 2019 poll?
(Ref.: <https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/elections/lok-sabha-elections-2019/west-bengal/news/infiltrators-are-termites-will-throw-them-out-amit-shah/articleshow/68843279.cms>.)
Did anyone contradict him then, or later???

The national NRC is very much in the BJP manifesto for 2019 poll.
(Ref.: Clause 07, on p.10 at <https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5798075-Bjp-Election-2019-Manifesto-English.html>.)
Shah of Lies never tired of harping on that.
(Ref. e.g.: <https://www.news18.com/news/india/we-had-promised-in-our-election-manifesto-amit-shah-vows-to-introduce-nrc-throughout-the-country-2314157.html> and <https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/lok-sabha-passes-citizenship-amendment-bill-2019-amit-shah-there-will-be-nrc/articleshow/72449821.cms?from=mdr>.)
So, he did it even on the floor of the Lok Sabha, as recently as on December 9th, during the debate on the CAB.

This is how the Prime Minister has been quoted as saying in his speech at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on December 22nd:
"Since my government first came to power in 2014, I want to tell 130 crore countrymen, there has never been a discussion on this NRC ..."
(Ref.: <https://www.business-standard.com/article/current-affairs/citizenship-act-or-nrc-has-nothing-to-do-with-indian-muslims-says-pm-modi-119122300015_1.html>.)

It goes without saying that it's such a blatant and obvious lie that even street goon would have thought twice before whispering it, let alone screaming from a public platform.
It's just not the Union Home Minister, in the parliament and outside, the Defence Minister, the BJP Working President, even the President of India, on June 20th last, while addressing the joint session of the parliament had asserted the government's resolve to implement the NRC in the coming days. (The NRC process in Assam had already been under way.)

Even he himself, on the last day of Jharkhand poll campaign, on Dec. 17th, had obliquely talked of it. (Ref.: <https://indianexpress.com/article/india/jharkhand-election-campaign-why-dont-cong-its-cronies-announce-indian-citizenship-for-pakistanis-pm-narendra-modi-6172585/?fbclid=IwAR1cka8e8HrN6prAEqGF0FaShDq1IO7680X4Ux6oY-O58l2j-6awO28cbnM>.)

Similarly, on the same brazen note, he also claimed that there's no detention centre, meant for the apprehended illegal immigrants, in India.
Yet another screaming lie!

Evidently, this is just a cunning, even if rather comical, trick to confuse and, thereby, weaken the ongoing huge persistent resistance.
It deserves to be specifically noted, as has already been underlined above, that the PM has made no categorical commitment that there'd be no NRC.

But, given the fact that the regime appears to be losing its nerve, faced with the huge protests all across the land, as suggested by Modi's public disowning of his Sancho Panza, it's time to redouble our determination and raise the following demands, in a focused way.

AA. A formal statement from the PM assuring no NRC, to be, subsequently, backed up by a declaration by the government on the floor of the parliament to that effect.

BB. Formal assurance by the government that there'll be no NPR, only routine census.

CC. The government to issue an ordinance to scrap the current, discriminatory, CAA.

DD. India to confirm adherence to the UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, 1951, together with the 1967 Protocol.

Till accomplishment, resistance must keep gathering greater, and still greater, momentum.
All efforts must be geared towards that.
